Ah! Inebriated singers and Doritos munching! Truly a smorgasbord of auditory delights! :)
But in order to use TeamSpeak you must have w00tradio playing in the background.

The Praesidium Coalition Herolympics event, an alliance the Phantoms of War founded along with 2 other supergroups which now has 13 member SGs. 7 heroic events ran from 1:30 PM until about 10PM.
The event was announced on the official CoH website News page.
W00t Radio was involved on Friday and almost all day Saturday.
Vidiotmaps (badge-hunter's dream website) also got in on the action.
A Cryptic representative, CuppaJo, apologized for not making it and asked when the next one was going to be held so she could schedule it already.
Okay, do you know what happened last night, Stalemate? There I was, merrily bashing baddies with my lvl 15 Tank in the Hollows, when I lost connection to Map Server a couple of seconds before finishing the mish.
The I see half the servers were down! Can't get back on! :eek2:
Did the hacker strike again, or was there just a ton of traffic?

CuppaJo reported connectivity problems, so not likely a hacker incident this time.
BTW, did you know that a member of the Praesidium coalition fed info about the hacker last time to the devs? Turned out to be a 14-year Canadian old script kiddie...
14 years old!?! Arrgh! If it was my kid, I would have to break my rule against corporal punishment after school age and blister their rear end! :flames: Then, their PC and all of their electronics would be mine!Quote:

Bought a new gaming machine, so my old box went to the youngest lad. He decided to set up his own accounts for CoH and CoV, but discovered, much to his dismay, that toons cannot be transferred between accounts.
Oh well, it will be fun playing as a team while he rebuilds his favorite toons back up from scratch. :p
Man, I haven't played COH in so long.
I had a level 20 elec/elec blaster named DeusExMachina (with cape)
also had a level 14 super strength tanker named Dark Guyver (gotta love super jump)
And then some minor characters from level 4-8 I think.
I've wanted to get back into it, but dunno if I really will. I kinda gave it up for World of Warcraft long ago...

The game has changed a lot throughout the Issues released, so that might throw you for a spin if/when you come back to Paragon City, but the fight for good is worth it.
I was never into fantasy/medieval gaming myself, so even if WoW has the better reputation for gameplay, I still prefer CoH when it comes to character creation and style.
I can't wait for the space content...
Buenos dias, Senor Stalemate! When will you give in to the dark side and try CoV? Yes, they are the bad guys, but their costumes are way cooler!
I tried City of Villains beta for a while, I really enjoyed it (even more than COH).
The classes that are able to summon pets/minions are really powerful in PVE, and the costume choices are simply awesome. I guess I do prefer being a villain overall.
Yes, the Master Mind class is my favorite. I tend to solo with my toons, so having built-in henchmen is a very big plus for me. However, I can not let go of my heroes, for there is that part of me which always wanted to bash the baddies and save the civvies from the clutches of evil-doers.
I actually just started the 14 day trials on both COH and COV, hehe.
I got myself a sonic/energy blaster named Nitrosonic on Protector server. Reached level 14 with him tonight and picked up super speed, man is it fast! I figured i'd try it out since it was the only travel power I never took.
I'm hoping to reactivate my account sometime soon, it's good to be playing a bit again.
I have way too many toons, especially with both CoH and CoV. I just can't resist making more of them!
Any way, I have a Claw/Regen Scrapper (CoH) called Uber Savage and a Fire/Fire Brute (CoV) called Pyro Daemon on Protector. I only have two because Protector is being used primarily by my son Logan. My primary servers are Champion, mostly heroes, and Liberty, mostly villains.
At any rate, we'll see you around Paragon City. ;)
Hey, I missed your comment there.Quote:

Well, now that CoH and CoV have access to the same costume choices, the playing field has been leveled. No longer will the Villains enjoy the Dapper/Coutourier advantage. No longer will the Dark Side be able to lure the innocent into its foul grasp with really cool fashions and sparkley bling. Excelsior! :)Quote:

Three of the boys have started playing more actively and we have family Hero and Villain Super Groups. I am luring them away from WoW and Eve and into the CoH and CoV reality. On Champions we are the Aberdeen Pub Crawlers (Heroes) and on Liberty we are the Evil Cheese of Doom (Villains). See you all around! :p
Issue 13 is coming in the next few days (new powers: shields and pain domination), and the following issue will bring in user-created content creation (mission architect).
Originally these were intended to be brought all out together (with some existing power changes, more missions, etc.) but was split due to the testing involved.
I know it's not the same game but any of you play Warhammer Online? If so anyone on Azazel on Destruction side?
I was surprised how much I enjoyed COH when i played it, but not being able to access the U.S. servers sucked so much I gave it up.
Anyone else still playing City of Heroes?
I finally let my account close in January, but I can reopen it and rejoin the ranks of irregular players. Once the boys stopped playing, CoH and CoV kind of slipped into the background.
Are you guys still playing on a semi-regular basis?
My wife, my son and I are. Daughter prefers to play other free online MMOs with schoolfriends.
7 years this coming July... time flies. :p
The Phantoms of War have changed though.
The "old guard" is gone, with only a couple of names besides my own you night be able to remember. ILTU and hudsonsmith (Uun) have retired. Hudsonsmith does comes back at times during free reactivations.
Phantoms of War had been left in the hands of a player who had lobbied for SG leadership. Since 2 of the current 3 leaders were ending their careers and I had indicated I wanted to have less management / more fun, we eventually let him have it - while combining it with another SG we had been dealing with (Paragon Punishers). Their SG leaders and our own Great Gazoo now led this "double SG".
I had misgivings about him taking on this role, repeatedly telling him that if he thought winging it and conducting spur-of-the-moment activities was going to be enough, the SG would be dead in a year.
I turns out I was off by a month.
13 months later, he had been MIA for a couple of months and my wife started poking around behind my back to get the SG rolling again. At this point I was soloing a lot, keeping my distance so that I wouldn't cause trouble for the new leaders.
The Paragon Punishers SG leaders offered me to take over their own SG as well as relaunch PoW. After discussing some issues with them (I proposed Punishers would become the main SG while PoW would be an alt / paramilitary SG) I took the SGs main spot ("red star", a new rank in SG hierarchy that came out at some point) on Protector, Justice, and Virtue. I think that's about 10 groups total, including alts. The PoW website was adapted to reflect this change as well.
The chat channel is still "PoW", and it's relatively calm. We, like other SGs, now defer to the Protector Vigilance channel that I relaunched on Protector (which despite others pilfering from our list of users, has remained the most active channel on Protector).
I was also involved in the creation of the Mentor Project, a grassroots player assistance program in City of Heroes. I'm now debating shutting that down despite the fact that we have 150 registered mentors, since with Issue 20 the game has launched a "Player Help System" which, I find, competes directly with us.
So that's pretty much the gist of it.
I'm still using the @stalemate global handle, if you're around. ;)
Wow! Reading your post makes me want to reup my subscription to CoH and play again. After the boys stopped playing CoH and began to hit L4D heavily, I kind of let CoH lapse into obscurity. Now, all online play has died and I have become a crotchety curmugeon that only plays Civ V. :bor:
Guess I will dust off the old heroes/villains and rejoin the fray. :flames:
When City of Heroes - Freedom launches later this year, everyone who once had a subscription will be able to access their accounts again, within certain limitations, free.
Also, new accounts can have an extended, free "trial" account which lets them experience about 75% of the entire game, but with a max. of 2 characters only.
Jim Butcher plays CoH as Harry Dresden, though occasionally he gets booted by an overzealous mod for running a copyrighted character:)
I recall hearing or reading about that somewhere... funny stuff. :p
You may be wondering why I'm still playing City of Heroes after 7 years, and still recommending it heartily.
Here's an example of why that is: http://goo.gl/iAPy4
This is an activity I'm coordinating on the Protector server. Some players contacted me about being their PR / coordinator for an idea they wanted to do, and given my experience at handling server wide events this was a different kind of challenge.
Granted, managing 18 other players in their individual activities while trying to preserve the central plotline common to almost all the events isn't easy, but it's worth it.
It's worth spending hours of my free time organizing activities for others when I see the impact player-led initiatives have. Think of it as "passing it forward", if you will. When I started playing, meatwad, Ilovetheusers and WebHead were waiting for me and took the time to show me around, gave me some pointers. I've been building off that concept.
That's what strikes me as different in this MMO: the community isn't out to cover you in n00b taunts. Most of them are willing to take some of their time to help you out. Some will even offer to team with you and answer your questions for as long as it takes.
In my 7 years I've led the supergroup WebHead had founded with Ilovetheusers and hudsonsmith for years. The Praesidium coalition became the largest group of SGs on any server (30 SGs at one point). I participated in the cross server organizations known as Player Event Resource Committee and the SuperOlympics and created my own: the Mentor Project (over 150 volunteers now). I've been asked to take Phantoms of War again, following a hiatus in leadership, and also another SG we had fused with: Paragon Punishers.
My fun from this game derives as much from exploring the new stuff like the Incarnate system as from seeing others getting to enjoy the game - whether it's their first time or from checking out the new content. So I keep looking for new ways to help out.
The game has grown in size, in content, in quality and now soon in modes of access. Getting the Going Rogue version ensures you not only get the latest expansion, but also can access City of Heroes and City of Villains. Going Rogue permits players to start a character of any archetype, and then at level 20 decide if it will continue on the side of good, or the side of evil.
If you like comic books and science fiction with a little fantasy thrown in, this is "it". The competition still can't compete, despite their foundations in established lore.
And if you do try the free version, or sign in to a previously used account (which will become a premium account automatically), look me up.
Oh, and if you're in Europe, you can now access the North American servers directly. The separation no longer exists.
Actually I think that you had a big hand in forming the SG too. We all had roles but it was work, though it was a labor of love. Is the base still up? I put a crapton of time into that...
I'll be back o odd nights when it goes free. ;)
For me it was just too much time online vs spent with the wife and/or kids more than anything but now that the kids are out of the house I'm going to take a night or two and spend it playing again with the old team. ;)
We kept your spandex tights on the hanger. ;)
The base is up, and despite one ugly addition Gazoo made that I never bothered to fix it's remained identical. I couldn't bear to change anything and when we fused with Paragon Punishers (which is now the main SG) we started using their base for function (raid ready too, even has a maze that Karlik made), and PoW base remains where I'd rather hang out for inventing, chilling out.
With the advent of "red star" leader roles I was asked to handle that rank in SG leadership (basically equivalent to our Field Marshall idea) in all the Paragon Punisher / PoW SGs on Protector, Virtue and justice, but I'll be honest in saying my involvement in SG matters and SG promotion is much, much less than before.
Investing more time and resource while never being sure it was worth the effort kinda killed it for me, but there's still activity - even if it's more casual. I think this will actually fit your availability better.
These days, I'm more involved in maintaining the Protector Vigilance global channel with a couple more mods. It's become the official activity channel of the server, leaving Jello Shooters to cater to the 18+ chatters. There are still other channels, some with competing objectives now that they've seen our growth, but this just proves Protector is still quite alive and kicking.
I created a calendar where some of the regular event runners were invited as editors, and I'm now integrating it into a basic website that StarGeek (frequent Paragon Wiki contributor) is also experimenting with. Add a Twitter feed on top of that, the administration of a channel on Protector's Ventrilo server, and my casual maintaining of the Mentor Project and my soon-to-be-confirmed rejoining the Player Event Resource Committee, the coordination or promotion of various server events for other people, and yeah, I keep busy. ;)
But despite all that my actual online presence has dwindled - not because I find the game no longer appeals, but because when I'm on the actual gaming time is always less than management and PR time. So if I can't solo in hidden mode, I'll refrain from logging in on those evenings where I need a break.
