Pressure vessels, like the ones that house heluim gas at high pressures (3,000 psi), are fabricated in strict accordance with the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. These tanks can take a substantial increase in pressure, usually due to an unplanned temperature increase (e.g., structure fire) without rupturing. However...keep the valve protection cap screwed in place when the tank is not being used. Knocking over that mama onto the valved end can break the valve free. Not only will the valve take off like a raped ape, but the tank itself will go airborne and devastate just about anything in its path (can you say, "helium powered rocket motor"?)... :eek:
