George has gone to a high school reunion and met up with an old friend.

"George! How have you been ol' buddy? It must be 15 years since we last saw each other."

"At least that," George replies. "I've been keeping well, but tell me about yourself."

His friend answered, "I'm married now, but to someone you would not know. By the way, this is my daughter."

George looked at the young girl and asked her name.

"My name is the same as my mother's," she replied.

"Then I bet your name is Susan," said George.


How could he know?

The daughter is not a product of the marriage with the wife george does not know.... but a previous one. The friend is was possibly George's ex partner and the friend did not tell george he had a daughter.

It was on her name tag that everyone puts on at a reunion. :thumbs:

the friend IS susan. the little story makes no mention of gender, though I guess we are supposed to infer gender by the language like "hey old buddy" which is typically a guy thing to say but there is no law that says a woman can't say it.
