Do you even have a floppy drive in that computer? What happens if you press F1?
no floppy drive. having a quick look on the net i think i have to disbale this in Bios (but that sounds ridiculous to me). Im trying F1 again now as I forgot what it did the first time.... yup I have exactly the same blue screen fatal error as before Im afraid
Not possible if you did the full recovery - unless something coincidentally failed or you have Go Back on that machine?
Yes you need to disable floppy seek at boot in the bios.
I think i will give up. I think i have some cd's: drivers and utilities, drivers & documentation and Microsoft works 8. Should i try the drivers and utilities one? Then I will give up. It is a bit heavy to carry to reading on the train, or i would hire you in a second. I am sorry this seems to be going on forever for you..
Too right, never think 'I will just do this quickly'
Why not call Dell have them talk you though it?
I will do that. Thanks for everything though. What a palarva just from getting rid of an error message that wasnt doing any harm and was just a bit annoying. Can't thank you enough for trying though, and I have learned a lot. I know who to recommend to anyone I know in reading anyway.
Thank you!
Just to let you know that Dell were great and solved all my problems really quickly over the phone. In case you come across it again, to re-set a dell Dimension computer to original factory settings you start it up and at the very beginning, as soon as you see the Dell logo come up you press CTRL and F11 at the same time, tapping if necessary. You can then select to reset computer to original factory settings! Lots of warnings about losing your files and data, but just agree that you are sure a lot and bobs your uncle. Just in case anyone else needsthat advice.
Cool thanks Martha!
Hi guys,
Since I have Sprint DSL, I went to sprint's website and found a tech. support email place, they emailed me within 12 hrs. As most of you probably know, Embarq now owns Sprint, and Nextel is partnered there as well.
Thank you for contacting EMBARQ via email. We are truly sorry for any difficulty you have experienced.
This error is in relation to an older version of the Virtual assistant application. Go to start, control panels, and add/remove programs and uninstall the version of the virtual assistant that you have. Once you have removed the software you want to reboot the PC. Once back up you can do to link below to reinstall the latest version.
The EMBARQ Virtual assistant can identify issues, make repairs, and even connect you to live support. Simply download and install Virtual Assistant to have technical support available on your desktop. You can download the Virtual Assistant at the following website:
http://www.embarq.com/support/hsisupport.html
If you have nextel, I would suggest contacting them, as their virtual assistant may be different.
gracie, welcome:
We all thank you for that new info. It always helps to get new data.
I too had annoying error after installing IE7. Followed tip of searching for all locations of PSAPI.DLL but what I did was sort files out in order of date. I then renamed all the old files OLDPSAPI.DLL (any change would do) as NEODEIST said...well done that man. Then I copied the most recent version of PSAPI.DLL into all the locations(directories) where I now had OLDPSAPI.DLL
In other words bring up to date all instances of PSAPI.DLL & kept old files for back up. Delbert
Why today? Why not yesterday???

Hi Folks
Found this site today after spending about 7 hours yesterday trying to solve the problem of why, after upgrading my daughter's computer to XP and getting IE7 update from Microsoft, I kept getting this error message each time the machine was rebooted! I was convinced it was something I had done wrong .... :flames: as if!!!!!
So simple..........all I have to do now is visit her again and spend some time (probably another 7 hours) carrying out the suggestions on here.
Thank you all, I will definitely be back.
By the way there is a problem with her Home Page not opening properly, is that IE7 too or is that in fact me?
Thank you once again
Thanks folks - I used msconfig to disable BTHelpNotifier and Broadband Desktop Help - which are pretty much useless anyway - rebooted, and no more error!
