After buying two boats, he realised he'd spent all his money and had no cash flow. Pete opted for a couple of quick sales. By the end of the day he had sold both boats for 6000 pounds each.
On one boat he realized a profit of 20% and on the other boat he lost 20%.
Did Pete make money, lose money, or break even?
__________
He made a profit of 1000 on one sale, but lost 1500 on the other. He lost 500.

Duncan Drivel had a collection of rare bird calling records which he wished to sell.
He sold half of his records plus a half record more to Professor Bumble. Then he sold half of what was left and a half record more to Whislin Willy. At this point Duncan had one record left.
How many records did Duncan have originally?
__________
7 records.
Working backwards:
1 + .5 = 1.5
1.5 * 2 = 3
3 + .5 = 3.5
3.5* 2 = 7
7 records.Quote:

Mr. Shady, the only witness, tearfully explained that his wife had failed to secure her safety line, and when she slipped, she fell to her death.
Miss Goodbody didn't know Mr. or Mrs. Shady, but after watching the story, she was certain Mrs. Shady was murdered.
How could Miss Goodbody be so sure of foul play?
__________
Mr. Shady had purchased a two-way ticket for himself, but only a one-way ticket for his wife from Miss Goodbody.
She knew by the tickets he bought. Really it's not known because it's not said in the statement but the only logical assumption you can make is that he only bought her a one way ticket. This would be the only piece of evidence that could be provided to her but not mentioned in the news story.Quote:

- It makes no difference.
__________
C. The maximum tension on a rope is equal to the pull exerted at one of its ends.
The 10 men pulling against the tree. The men pulling against each other would fall or lose their grip if the pressure was too much, but the tree will never bunch.Quote:
