Hi
Will the Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H run a AMD phenom X4 processor and if so what can it support upto.
Here is the list of cpu's that the board your asking about supports.
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=2579
You know,
Just once OMG you might consider that's the model that is available to this person,
and not the one your trying to ram down their throat :)
In fact this page says it supports it right out of the box with its factory bios and says nothing about having to upgrade it.

CPU
1. Support for Socket AM2+/ AM2 processors: AMD Phenom™FX processor/ AMD Phenom™ processor/ AMD Athlon™ 64 FX processor/AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core processor/AMD Athlon™ 64 processor/AMD Sempron™ processor.
UMMM let me see
DUH!
it may be the only model avaliable to him.
DUH
It clearly states for those that have the ability to read that it supports the Phenom.
UK avaliability is not the same as american or canadian avaliability
I want to use the Phenpm 9950 but it looks like the Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H will only support upto Phenom X4 9850.
Also what i forgot to mention is I alread have the MA-69GM S2H already installed using a dual core processor.
So I guess the question really is will the 9950 make a big difference from the 9850. There is 0only a 100Mhz speed difference i think.
So do you think I should just stick with the board I have and go for the 9850.
In fact it says neither way whether it does or does not support that CPU.
I would say since it supports all the others the 9950 is just a mhz jump and not a technology jump. It should be fine with that 9950. Now an email to gigabyte support isn't hard and doesn't take a lot of time and will likely tell us whether that list was made before the 9950 was market available.
Also since it seems to me you have a pretty decent video card for that system upgrading to the board OMG suggested is going to net you nearly nothing except cost

Now as to whether there is any significant difference between the 9850 and the 9950 at 100 MHZ.
No definitely not. It will likely be measurable in a specific benching program but as to whether it will run your game significantly faster the short answer is no.
What I am saying is based on exact hardware for both cpu's without changes a game like Farcry2 or COD 5 wont show you any real world difference using either 9850 or 9950.
Also what is different between the normal processors and the Black edition ones?
i will email gigabyte and let you know what they say. So shal i stick with my MA69GM S2H board? I am currently running a X2 5200 i think it should make a lot of difference upgrading from this CPU wot do you think?
I think emailing is the wisest choice.
We aren't in possession of all of the info from Gigabyte.
They can answer the question best.
Switching cpu's and seeing enormous speed increases in my opinion is unlikely.
You really need applications and or games which are multi cpu aware i think.
