Perfect Tech Website

Please describe to me what you would all like to see in the "perfect" technical website. This would not be a news site by a site dedicated to technical support for technicians on a free membership only status. It would never hope to be a new Windrivers, but a host to all the technical informaiton I can scrounge, including FAQ's from tech's to help others in trouble, way's we've found to be faster at our jobs, more efficient and things to watch out for.

This site is great, but I have found that too many people are not registering and therefore have no accountability when it comes to their responses.

Anyhow, please let me know what you think.

Take a look at the <a href="http://www.os2ss.com">OS/2 SuperSite</a>. Something like that, but in a Windows environment, would be great.

I don't think making a person register gives them anymore credibility...I mean after all, what does regestering prove?...A person knows how to pick a username/password and give an email address?....Wow, any moron who knows how to type and set up a Hotmail or Lycos account can have as many usernames for a bulletin board as they want!

I for one usually find almost anything I need to know on windrivers, so I don't even bother looking at other less established sites.

Actually, credibility plays a big role with me. When I notice a registered user with quite a few (100+) posts, I immediately lend more weight to their opinion than an unregistered user.

I also notice the 'regulars' on the boards. Not just the moderators...the people: Klenath, pcshark, sowulo, Larommi, Damned Angel, MAYHEM (the list goes on)...I respect their opinions much more than some random anonymous poster.

Why not require registration? Some (two?) of the windrivers boards are.

I will agree I give more weight to the regulars, I'm still feeling my way along here, trying not to offer ignorant advice, which is why I don't come here till I get my early morning caffeine...

Wow, feel better now? For what it is worth I agree with you. Everybody started somewhere, and there are some really smart people who just started posting and there is one that changed his name...I forget who.

Back to the topic, I think a good site is one that allows users to post ideas and impliments some of them. Just like Windrivers. Scott built it, but us techs got to help tweak it. I hope things return to normal soon!!!

I agree that registration is not going to make a person more credible. I have seen good and bad posts by both registered and non registered users. As far as the number of posts by a user goes, that just shows how active they are on the forums.

I completely agree. I would probably join, but do not see much need for it. I use this site and another BBS site (virtualdr) and from both of them I get quick and helpful answers (and I try to be helpful too).

Two more points - 1)Registering does not seem to mean much as far as credibility.
2)WHat do you mean by hold someone responsible for heir posts? - If I give advice to help someone solve their problem, and they end up messing up their computer even worse - what can happen - can I be sued? Who is to say they followed my advice properly? Who is to say they described the problem accurately? Who is to say I know what I am talking about? Who is to say you can figure out who and where I am?

I agree totally WinKrushR, I take the advice more of the members with more posts than the newly registered or unregistered user, but I was just saying registering doesn't really prove your credebility, because anybody could post and say they were a tech and we have no way of knowing whether they are a tech or not.

But I guess how you build credebility is by posting frequenlty, and the only way to do that and be remembered is by regestering, I think I came across wrong on my first post!

Why look for a better site this one does everything you need also registering i did because........well id did any way. i have learnt alot from this site long may it continue

Don't value my opinion just because I have posted more than 100 times! I'm wrong about 99% of the time, I'm just more prolific (-;

Seriously, though, it's true that I have a tendancy to listen more to the people who are actually registered, and not just whipping off a reply because the thought strikes them. There are a couple unregistered users who are still regulars, though. Basically I read each post carefully as if the writer were the ultimate expert, because I may learn something that I didn't know before, even if the person is not registered.

I read them all, registered or not, then discount what I think is BS. Some times that comes from registered users as well as non-registered. sometimes the problem has MORE than one solution, sometimes the problem is confused for something else, sometimes we're all 1d10t's. I come here to get second oppinions and to give my own. If I helped you solve the problem then I am pleased. If you helped ME solve a problem I am pleased and hope you are, too.

In any event, I thought this IS the ultimate site. Was I wrong???

what I meant by holding them responsibile for their posts is simply a flaming issue. All information on a discussion forum is provided as intellectual stimulation and for the joy of discussion, what you do with it, you do at your own risk.

will, I posted to a sight that had nothing to do with what I was Reading. It was an accident, but the poor guy's reading my post, I am sure they were wondering what planet I was from. I had two browsers up for the forum and thought I was posting to another page, didn't catch it till 4 or 5 day's later. and I still give STUPID advice, most of it is misreading the damn post.

About people with many posts, I could just post dozens of questions and have the post count high. When in fact I have no idea what I'm doing. Or I could post things like this that mean nothing and have my count go up...
