bjc 4200 woes?

well, sister-in-law just recieved a new Compaq Presario. the canon printer to be used with it chooses to do otherwise as it will only flash it's pretty green light constantly!! drivers (included updated drivers via Canon), have all been loaded,but to no avail. cartridges are filled with ink,are seated properly, no problem areas located in device mgr.. when the printer receives it's print job, the job will show as being sent to printer ,but will not begin. I have gone through everything from the bios to the printer and even went to find a hammer!! funny thing about this is that Compaq actually lists a couple of problems with canon printers and Presario, but failed to find the fix for this problem. any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Delete your printer and files
Go into setup and change your LPT port to SPP.
Make sure printer is on
Shut off and reboot computer
It should come up into Windows (found new device)
Install drivers accordingly.

go out and buy a real printer
epson is best

Just for giggles you might try another printer cable. Its a long shot, but more than once I've fussed with a printer problem for hours only to find that the cable was bad. Try a new cable, preferably one that is rated IEEE. Hope this helps

thanks for all the suggestions folks! if none of these ideas work.............well let's just say I've found the hammer!

Go one step beyond Eagle. Start in Safe mode and delete the printer.

Check for IRQ conflicts under Device Manager.
If everything seems to be ok, change the Memory Address and IRQ under bios.
I'd download the newest drivers too, if I were you.

And...by the way...
if you wanna buy a real printer...avoid Epson!!!

There are some good ideas here just make sure at some point the printer gets unplugged from the wall. Clear that buffer out. I have seem simular problems (on many different brands of printers)
Try a shorter cable. Anything over 10ft' has a 50/50 chance of working.

so far no dice as far as the printer goes. cale is about 5' long and the drivers are the most recent to date according to Canon. as far as Epson goes, well let's just say I own a Lexmark and haven't had any problems as of yet. thanks again everyone for all the ideas and if I ever happen to get this thing goin' for her..........heh heh heh?

You Might want to try and replace the printer cartiage after a period of the time the printer can wear out and can cause the problems, your getting the replacement cartiage is a Canon BC21-e average price $50 which included both ink. I've seen this problem alot. and replacing the cartiage fixes the problem mosr of the time

I agree with Sae24a. Try making a test page from the printer itself. Hold down the resume and power until you hear it beep(printer has to be off) if it does not print then try replacing the head.

thanks for all the help everyone! SAE24a had the fix. who would've known a printer that is hardly used at all could crap out so soon. printer is actually only 3 years old. thank again everyone!

Sure, if you don't have $150 to $200 for a decent one. I guess not all of us have deep pockets like you.
