Cobra & Lycia are tripping down memory lane about the X-men, the FF, Spidey and the like.
Does anyone remember Steve Gerber's original Man-Thing series as drawn by Mike Ploog? That's the one I hated to see end. Howard the Duck was a spin-off of Man-Thing, and even though the HtD movie was sixty miles past terrible, the comic book series was great.
Your thoughts?
It's been so long since I've collected comic books. I used to collect as a kid for years and years. My favorite hero is definately Spider Man. I even have a Spidey tattoo. And Todd McFarlane is my favorite Spidey artist.
I started reading and buying comics in the late fifties. Along the way the one that stands out in my memory as one I always managed to scrounge the money to buy was Mad Magazine.... <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Up until I was about 15 years old, comic books were my major vice. Spider-Man, X-Men, Wolverine, the Punisher and Ghost Rider were my major MUST BUY titles every month, and I also occasionaly dabbled in the Incredible Hulk, DareDevil and the Fantastic Four.
My favorite comic book moment though was probably the X-Tinction Agenda cross-over between X-Men/X-Factor & New Mutants. It was just such a powerful story, and the panel where Magneto looked on in sorrow over the bodies of his dead fellow mutants will probably be inbedded in my mind forever.
That and the debut of Venom in Amazing Spider #300. <IMG SRC="smilies/cool.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/cool.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/cool.gif" border="0"> Followed closely by the debut of Carnage a couple of years later.
BENNO, from England. It was a funny comic full of the misadventures of lots of characters and kids. It always cracked me up. Over here I fell in love with Spawn. I love the art work and the original story line. I collect the action figures and read the books from time to time.

I used to know a guy called Gary Chaloner. He did some work for Marvel (Gen-X 95, I used to have a signed copy <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">, and a few others.. ), and my comic collection was huge, limited prints, signed editions.. I sold them all for a song when i was 16 (read: stupid), and it was an incredibly bad choice.
Should really get back into reading some of them again, but all the decent artists and writers seem to have been ditched.. where is Scott Lobdell now... or Joe Madrera..
The Terminator series was kick @ss. All set in the future like the best scenes from the movies (other than the minigun scene in T2).
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was great too. I'm not talking bout the cheese kids version, I'm talking the origional black and white gore-fest books.

Over the years I've read FF, spidey, X-men, I had a few old 60's issues of Cap America.
MAD( My whole dang family read MAD, I remember sitting in the living room with my mom and bros reading and laughing our @sses off)
And I have, stored away in an attic every issue of Heavy Metal until '96. I kinda slacked off a bit since then.

Kabuki by David Mack and Strangers in Paradise are my current favourites. Along with Nightwing, Harley Quinn, and Birds Of Prey(Barbara Gordon & Canary).
I have a gazillion Spideys I gave to my nephew, and an extensive Batman/Detective comics stash, Loads of X-men/Uncanny X-Men/New Mutants/X-Force/X-Factor collection. Alot of favourites were from Valiant, befor Accliam ran it to the ground. Some of the best damn stories there: X-0 Manowar, Rai, Solar, Magnus, Bloodshot, Ninjak,Eternal Warrior, Archer & Armstrong, sigh...I miss Valiant.
If anyone is interested, go get the back issues of Kabuki by David Mack. It starts off in pen and ink, but Mack uses Photos, watercolors, oils, and several hundred other media to create one the best comics/stories ever made. The writing is equally incredible. http://www.nohtv.com/javind.htm

I have four long boxes of comics, bagged and boarded.
My favorites were X-Men, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Spawn, and The Maxx. Bone was cool, and some of the Dark Horse Aliens/Predator mags were always a good read.
I have a couple original comic are pages (a Punisher and a What If?!?).
I guess my best book (assuming it wasn't thrown out when I moved) was Iron Fist #14, the first appearance of SabreTooth.
