We Just got Engaged on holiday

Hello people, I'm back from the big apple, And had a excellent time. One thing that stands out most of all is that I asked Ashley [Smurfette] to marry me. She said yes straight away. :cool: :cool: :cool:

She was still recovering from the surprise trip to New York and didnt see the proposal coming at all, Which I'm glad about as I was wanting it to be a total surprise. We phoned her folks from the hotel to tell them the news they both we over the moon. I did tell her dad what I was planning to do before I left, he shook my hand and said good luck.

Just thought I would share this with the world, Cause I'm chuffed to bits.

I'm getting to that point in my relationship also. Did you get her a ring? How much did you spend? How did you bring it up with her dad?

Our wedding in sept is fast approaching. It will definately sneak up on you. Seems like only yesterday it was a year away.

I was planning a surprise trip to New York for about 6 months or so which I was planning to take her on. But it was only in the last 2 months that I have really felt like asking her the big question. I just figured why not just buy the ring take it to New York and ask her there.
I wasnt going to tell her parents but I figured at the last minute I would tell her dad. I turned up at the door one night when I knew Ashleys mum would be out. I more or less came out with "You know I'm taking Ashley to New York, Well I'm planning to ask her to marry me while I'm there. I'm was wondering how you felt about that". He thought it was a great idea and if she said yes he would be happy for me to be his son-in-law. This kind of made asking her easier as I knew her dad approved of me.
I hunted round for a ring for weeks before I found it. I eventually decided on a 0.33ct diamond set in 18ct gold set me back about £900. I even managed to get the exact size as well so I would have to mess around getting it resized once we got back.

Word of advice - Don't rush the wedding, enjoy the engaged stage for a while.

What else did you do in the city?

lots of questions.....

No date has been set for the wedding, We havnt talked about that yet. Probably leave it for a while yet as were both still getting used to the idea of being engaged. The only thing thats being arranged [by her folks] is the engagment is getting printed in the local paper.

She didnt cry at when I 1st asked her, but when I put the ring on her finger she cried. It was a very nice moment as they were people near by who saw what was happening and they all wished us well and talked to us for a while afterwards. We made a lot of new friends in the process.

What else did we do....lots heres just some of the stuff :-
We went on a tour of the city to queens, bronx, china town, New Jersey, Harlem, little italy, Coney Island, Ground Zero, Statue of liberty, Elis Island, Central Park etc etc etc. I had to take her round the shops as well [Credit card bill is going to be nice :p ]
We also went to a show the city put on called Broadway Under the Stars which was pretty cool. Right after the show we went to the Empire State Building where I asked her.
