Ok, please answer the poll. I'm about to ask for a raise, and I want to guage how much most people in a similar position make so I can know where to stand. Ok, I've been working with my company for almost 2yrs. Been doing great with them, no problems. I'm about to get my A+ cirtification. I'm also recently taking up a large amount of added responsibility. It's also yearly raise time anyways. I'm currently making $10.50/hr. I'd like to ask for more. What do you all think? Please answer the poll.

When I was a tech with similar experience and the A+, I was making $11.00 an hour plus a share of store commission which averaged out to around $100 a month. But this was Canadian--and my boss was incredibly cheap.
The (so-called) "senior" tech was making $13 an hour with the same bonus.
Well, I get paid $20 per hour, Australian, and I am always surprised at how much tech support staff are paid in the USA, and how much some people moan about it.
Wish I could emigrate and share the wealth ;)
Try looking at <a href="http://www.salary.com." target="_blank">www.salary.com.</a> Just pick where you live and what you do and the site will produce a high/low/average salary range for you.
Wow, Salary.com thinks I should be getting paid almost $70,000 australian, as opposed to $44,000 I am paid...
Pffft.. if only :(
Oh man... im going through, comparing the Salary.com wizard, using different areas I (think) I would like to be based in .. and its just depressing to think what I get paid now... *sigh* ... it just aint fair, damnit :D :D :D

I think a whole lot depends on what you actually do. Do you work with the network at all, if so, just cabeling, simple admin, do you work with the server? Are you a bench tech for a store or are you at a corparation? Is your location small or extremely large? Do you do helpdesk only, or a myriad of other tasks?
The more you do, then yes, the more you should get paid. But if you are just wanting more money, then you better be pretty good at salesmanship to sell the reason why they should pay you more.
It did seem a little high. :D But I figure you could use it as a starting point for negotiations. Use printouts from the site to show the boss what other people say you are worth.
I did some research on MonsterJobs.com, and found someone in my position should be averaging about twice what I'm currently getting.....I dunno, I just want to get a wide variety of polls, especially from people here, as I'm pretty aware of most people's knowledge here. Plus I can get much better feedback here.
By the way, MonsterJobs uses salary.com's engine and interface when determining salarys.
And now that I just looked at salary.com I am thouroughly depressed. Still 8,000 under the low end of the chart.

Well, I pretty much do a bit of everything. From upgrading/repairing, to troubleshooting Win98 and Win2k, to preparing computers to be given to employees. I also manage the external dialup accounts, and I just recently was given a large area about 2.5 hours away, which will require a weekly commute, and there, I'll be completely managing the networks, client computers, ect... I also support all our jobsites (We're a construction company, so we have lots of jobsites scattered throught Baltimore,Dc., Virginia).
I'm pretty much acting as a know it all for the company, which is part of what makes this so hard.
I know what you mean. While I have no official job title, all of the following apply:
Network Administrator
Systems Administrator
Hardware Support Specialist
Software Support Specialist
Help Desk
Computer Programmer
Web Designer
Webmaster
Computer Consultant
The list goes on...
Does that mean I should ask for a salary that's a combination of all these jobs? :D
ahh salary.com is correct im making 37k a year, I still have some hot spots I have to fill in here at my work to get my 45k only been here for 1 year

And anything else my manager decides to assign me. ;)
