It was the movie, Omega Man, with Charleton Heston that turned me onto the book I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. One of the scariest, absolutely terrifying short stories that I've ever read was written by him: Prey. I think I remember that this short story was made into a short TV movie. The story was great!

Where I come from, Billy Bob and Jimmy Joe already have that much firepower or more, only they hang it in the rack in the back of the cab.

It's rare that the movie is as good as the book - the book is ALWAYS scarier...
