When does the war vs terrorism end, anyways?

Now before we start the wrong argument, let me just state that I actually DO support the war against terrorism. I don't feel GOOD about it, but I don't see a better alternative.

But it occurred to me in the other thread, when somebody said that the war against terrorism could take years, maybe decades. How can you ever "win" such a war? History, unfortunately, seems to say that terrorism will always be a problem for humanity, that we will never eliminate it completely. Eliminate Bin Laden, and someone else will already be trying to become him, for some fanatical cause...

Will the war ever end? Should the war ever end? And if it does end, how will we know we've really won?

i think that the war will be like the cold war, ie a big hole for us to trow money into in the sake of security, dod has been looking for a black hole ever since the cold war ended..

I support our troops, I support getting out terrorism, but I just dont want to hear or see friends and family die over this. But what can we do, we must protect I guess. Just hope Bush wont get us into a deep hole wear we cant get out. hummmm

I think it will be over around the same time the war on drugs ends.

I'd say when we don't have to worry about people flying into our buildings and infecting our families and friends with biological agents. Or never, whichever comes first.

While unfortunate and meaningless it may seem to some, given the outcome of it being always unfinished business, there is definately a need for this that, I'm sure, even many anti-war advocates can agree with. Whether it be drugs or terrorists, it's like a dropping GPA... you never seem to get anywhere until you quit working on it... then it's straight down.

When the sun implodes and all life on Earth ceases to exist, then the war on terrorism will end. Unless of course by that time we've taken over another planet in a galaxy far far away that has a sun (or two) of it's own. Then we would have to fight terrorism there too. It's probably going to be a long time I suppose.
