Got an HP 5Si all networked up and can ping it fine, config page tells me set up is fine too BUT nothing ever reaches it. No data flashing lights or anything. Whatever PC with whatever OS I can ping it but not print. Going even more grey and more bald. Any ideas anyone please?

What print server are you using to share the queue? Or are you using straight IP printing from each of the PC's?
I guess you'd call it straight IP printing - PC's print to a port which is the IP add.
Try another network card (if one is available) and assign it the same ip address as the one already in the printer.
Would that make a difference? I can already see it on the network cos I can ping it.
Actually, I had the same exact problem once with a 5n. I could ping it, and it was on the network, it just wouldn't print. For some reason another network card fixed the problem. I would also try clearing all print jobs and then restarting the printer.
You might also try assigning it another ip address also.

The theory is that the card is on the network, but not communicating with the printer correctly. It is one of those: if you haven’t tried it yet, give it a shot. Also, double check all of the IP information in the printer, be sure it is setup correctly. Perhaps resting to factory defaults, then starting over will get things going.Quote:

Will the printer print from the LPT port, (something to test). If so, and external jet direct box might solve your problem if you can’t find another internal on hand.

When you say you are using straight IP printing...exactly how? Native to 2k/XP, or are you using something like JetAdmin?
What printer drivers are you trying to use? Using a basic HP 4 printer driver will print on a 5si. Might be something to think about, but as you stated, nothing even blinks on the Printer as though it received, so proper drivers are probably not an issue…
Anyway, keep us posted with everything you try, something is bound come up.
Oh, and along the same idea of changing IP's:
Something to test, with the printer off or disconnectied from the network ping the same address. If you get replies, than you have a duplicate, and need a new address, or to remove the other dup...;)
Try connecting a PC directly to it via Parallel port and try to print then to rule out the printer just not printing at all.
Can you reach it through your browser? I don't know if the 5si's are new enough but you can browse the settings in your browser by typing the ip address in the address bar.
Are you sure nothing else has that ip? No conflicts in the tables.

Are you using JetDirect of JetAdmin?
Also, configuring TCP/IP from the Front Panel.
Also, go here to make sure you have the correct JetDirect card installed.

Yep sure there are no IP conflicts. 5Si too old to use browser! Printer will print self test pages etc so I know mechanically is OK. NW config is set up as it should be - am pulling out what's left of my hair!
Well - I turned it off overnight and lo and behold this morning it works fine! I will check out the NW card later though - there's obviously someting not right...
