XP Power Settings!

I know power settings are a cool feature and all but I need a way to turn them of permanently for all new profiles that log onto XP Pro. I have looked into gpedit.msc and that does not allow me to configure power schemes for default users. We have users that come in and out most of them new and some that remote admin in to the pcs. Those that are new and have logged into the PC leave for a while and then then PC goes into sleep preventing those remote desktopping into to fail. IS their a way to default the monitor, hd and sleep to never or simply disable it permently.

Have you tried disabling all power settings in bios and then in XP while logged on as Admin? ie always on, no standby, etc.
Also, disable hibernation?

Log in as Admin (come to think of it limited users should be able to change their desktop settings) Right click the desktop > properties > screensaver > settings under Energy saving features of monitor. Then under Settings for Always On power scheme set System standby, Turn off monitor and Turn off Hard disks to Never. Should be the last item in the drop down menu.
I set all my laptops to this for when they're connected to AC.

hmmmmmm....... Start > Settings > Control Panel > Power Management would be quicker under Admin. :rolleyes:

I tried these methods. XP will overide the BIOS settings and no matter what I set on the admin side if a new user logs in it will default to the xp defaults of 15 miuits for monitor and standby.

Is XP locking down the workstation? what actually happens?

I ran into this with some new PC's here. I went so far as to set the power management along with several other things in a template user, then restarted and copied that profile to the Default profile (using the system properties utility), and I’ll be damned if the power settings were the only thing I couldn’t get to stick. Well that and the damn Outlook Express icon in the quick launch kept showing up with a new user. Oh well…

Anyway, I tried a few more default profiles, and the power settings just didn’t stick when a new user logged in, although everything else I expected worked like a charm…

If you find out how, let me_know!!!

Not positive, but I think you can set that the registry in the same place as setting the login screensaver.

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop\
PowerOffActive
and
PowerOffTimeOut

Remember, backup before you change anything, and I said "not positive", so don't be mad if that ain't it :P

hhmm, this showed up as 0 for both even though they were set to 15 minuits in the power scheme aplet. I messed around with different settings and had no results.

What turned up as a 0?
Are you talking about the registry that Rifleman suggested?
Also, what did you mess around with.
Obviously, this could be problematic, since Ya_Know is even asking what eventually is the fix.

OK you tried with user profiles.... have you copied and made new hardware profiles? Will it stick then?

I don't understand...or maybe I just don't see how hardware profile will offer the solution. I've only used hardware profiles in laptop dock/undock situations...doesn't look like it is going to help me here...

You can disable or enable differing devices in hardware profiles, my simplistic thinking is that if it don't stick in a user profile, perhaps it will in a hardware profile.
