I looked at the computers in my shop Monday. Ten waiting for service. Eight with spyware (and viruses). Two with other problems.
By the time I got all eight spyware problems they were beyond fixing for a reasonable cost. Ad-aware, Spybot, etc. couldn't get them working ok. Had to r/r them all.
This is so far out of hand it isn't funny.
10? Try having 50! And most of those are the same as you. You call up the client and tell them it's going to cost $250 to get their computer running and they just about s*** themselves. With 6 technicians we're STILL a week behind.Quote:

I love Ghost... we have some homogenous machines out on the floor here, so, if one craps out... well... it's Ghost, so what else is there to say?
Sucks about the spyware issues though, you could always recommend Firefox as an alternative to IE to customers... just a thought...
The customers don't help eather... I sell a new machine last week the guy says don't charge me for Nortons A/V I'll put it in my self... (I should know better)... He's back in there today upset his computer is full of viruses and is unwilling to pay for the repair...
The last thing I'm going to complain about is having work and having a job. I love that. But this whole spyware thing is starting to burn me out.
Indeed. Before even loading and using the malware programs, you need to start in safe mode and get all the stuff you know is bad before you can even begin to tackle the "straglers". Some pc's are easier than others, and the ones that are really bad can take hours and hours. I do not believe in formatting, as I believe ANYONE can do that, and as a tech, we don't learn anything and are not offering the customer tech services. But, this attitude is beginning to change with all this malware crap. Some jobs are just no longer cost effective. Damn, it is indeed worse that I have ever seen it. Worse than any virus outbreak I have ever seen, or remember.Quote:

I end up running adaware, then spybot S&D, then CWSHredder, then kill2me, then Hijack this, then I go through the registry to make sure I didn't miss anything, then I go throught the windows and system32 directories to delete stragglers, then I empty all the temp folders, then I boot into each of the other logon accounts and start the whole thing over. :mad:Quote:
