Well, if you need drivers for your Umax scanner, you can forget about downloading them! Those bastards now want to charge you for the latest drivers, and send it out on cd! No downloads!
What a POS company! I emailed them the nastiest email I ever wrote today. They suck, I hope they go out of business faster than I can turn out the light. :mad:
Yes, they do suck. I updated my PC to Win2K recently and discovered that UMAX doesn't have Win2K drivers for their parallel port scanners! :mad: And my scanner is only 2 years old!!!
So now, I either need to set up a new machine with Win98SE just so I can use my scanner, or go get a new scanner. I tell you, if I go new, it won't be a UMAX...
Boy, I hope I still have the last download for that scanner. $15 for a driver CD!!! :mad:
What's next? Buy a scanner for the low price of $39 (software can be purchased seperately for $59) ???? Mark my words, this will happen in 5 years or less. Bastards. :mad:

find the correct software, select your scanner and operating system. Certain software IS NOT available for download. In this case, a CD-ROM may be purchased.

HP has been doing the same thing for a while now. The reason that certain drivers are available for download and others aren't (and you have to pay for them) has to do with the third-party bundled software you get with a lot of scanners. (Photoshop LE for example) The scanner manufacturer has a license agreement with those software companies that they must adhere to. Hence the charges for the software.
If you work in retail sales forward this info to your sales department.
The best way to stop the practice is to stifle their sales.

When I get home this evening I can pm you with the site to tell you how with the vista scan software. just let me know.
First of all, there is no 3rd party software in their driver pack, it's simply the drivers and crapy interface to set up the options and scan. You need a seperate image program for anything more. Umax is pathetic, I emailed them a ton of times before about getting their crap to work on WinXP. They would always send a generic email back telling me to use Windows Paint!! WTF!? Great! My scanner is 1 year & 2 months old. I was so upset, I went out and got a Canon scanner. Now thats some nice software and drivers! Whats worse, is that the crappy VistaScan software is buggy as hell under Win2kK, and wont work with XP. :mad:

P.S. why would you even want an image program included with the driver CD. It's going to be crappy LE or shareware version anyway. There are a ton of good imaging programs out there available cheap or free / shareware. I like paint shop pro, but that's just me.

I think I know the reason that your 1220P works: Win 2K is calling my 2000P a 1220P, but obviously isn't working. So, basically, Windows has default drivers for your scanner.
Not much help for DJ and I, unfortunately. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

It will not work running through Photodeluxe, but it DOES work if running on just VistaScan. A little clunky, but I can live with it for now. :)
