Actually street1, a good topic BUT:
Just name a movie and ask how I would have ended it versus how it actually ended.
That interests me.
I hate u-tube links.
:)
Well then,youtube hater....lol
How would someone end the original Matrix.
Ignoring the visuals (deceiving at best) the ending comes down to the actual words:
"I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin. I'm going to hang up this phone, and then I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world without you. A world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries. A world where anything is possible. Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you."
I think the problem with the ending is that only true SciFi people get the meaning. The plebians see it as a sequel-enforcer or as a lame ending BUT the Sci_fiers see it as an insight into Neo's mindset as he sees his present position (powerful yet still not fully aware of his enemy).
Now me, I would have simply had a computer-glitch-scrambled- screen and then BOOM! A long-shot then closing in shot of Neo with some after-fight facial marks back in his coccoon.
Still evokes sequels but stops the Neo = GOd stuff.
Neo is still then a tool of some other entity.
:)
Neo back in his cocoon...Good idea.I like that.:D
How about a shot of an overweight Neo, wearing stained boxer shorts and wife-beater T-shirt, lounging on a couch, scarfing down pizza and beer, watching reality TV shows. ;)
How about a cut to George Bush white-lipped and trembling?Quote:

Since that is movieland, they couldn't very well follow the book.
I do think they could have allowed the little guys the glory of the last adventure to free their own land, but following the original manuscript and having Frodo leave demoralized and discontent for the far away Elfin hideaway would have left movie-goers with a bitter taste in their mouths.
Seeing as how it was written and presented as a monumental fairy tale, the happy ending was probably the most acceptable without adding another 45 minutes of film time.
:)
Fair enough. How about Kasdan's Body Heat? No novel I'm aware of, only cinema.Quote:

I have to say that Body Heat is really a must see. I'd rate it a classic. Smart, sinister, sexy, great cast, writing, and direction. William Hurt, Kathleen Turner, Richard Crenna, and Ted Danson deliver superb performances. Really. Rent it and get back to me.
In the meantime, how about an alternate ending for Brazil?
LOL! You do watch an eclectic range of movies dontcha!
I don't watch many nowadays (I know, that was an 80's film BUT I never go to theatres and if it wasn't on TV or I didn't see it at an on-sale video bin then I didn't see it).
And now, since I quit smoking, one of the things I had to do was quit my favourite pastime in the evening, watching movies.
However, both of those sound interesting so I'll put them on my X-mas list.
Perhaps, to make this work, we simply need a movie or three put forth by people who didn't like their ending and then everyone just comment?
:)
Think I should also mention that Kasdan has written screenplays for, or directed, The Empire Strikes Back, Continental Divide, The Big Chill, Silverado, The Accidental Tourist, and more.
Those I have watched! Amazing.
