Hi,
I have a Toshiba Sattellite Pro A100, and just reinstalled Windows XP pro. the problem is i have no sound. i downloaded the sound drivers from the toshiba website, but i still have no sound. pls help...im no just when it come to computers!
I would like to know if that particular computer came with XPPRO to start?
Also did you install the chipset drivers for that model as well?
Was this the driver package you used?

the computer did come with XP Pro to begin with, and yes i installed the chipset drivers.
i believe the driver package i used was version 2002, service pack 3 v. 3244
sorry, i dont know what i was talking about before,
yes, that was the drive package i used
OK right click my computer, click properties, on the window that opens, click general -
What service pack is shown near the top?
Now click on the hardware tab and the device manager button, scroll down to Sound, video and game, click on the + beside it... post what is shown under the sound.
Close that, go start, control panel, sound and audio devices (or sound, speech and audio devices then sound and audio devices if you are not in classic view).
Is the sound device listed? Is the mute box checked? Is the volume up more than half way?
Now click on the audio tab - what are the 3 default devices shown?
the service pack is 3, v.3244
under sound is:
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Video Codecs
there is not a audio device listed and i cant click on mute or change the volume.
under audio, the sound playback device says "no play back device". its the same for sound recording and midi music device
So no, you don't have the drivers installed. When you downloaded the package linked above, what did you then do with it?
after i downloaded the package link, i ran it, followed the intructions and it restarted my computer
Are you logged on with administrative rights?
Have you checked the bios/setup that sound is enabled?
i am an administrator. but i dont know how to check the bios/setup to see if sound is enabled
When the computer first boots hit the f2 key a few times.
i looked, and went through all the menus and sub-menus, but there was no option to enable sound
ok, so you have no driver listed for sound, do you have any unknown devices in device manager? Anything with yellow? or !
there is one unknown device... its called PCI Device
Right, that's your sound!
OK delete/remove that device. Restart the machine, when you get back to desktop the hardware wizard should launch. Don't touch the hardware wizard, but go to the package you downloaded and double click it to launch the install again.
Should work this time.
