Holy Firepower Batman!

Alright... I've done had enough of computers... heheheh... I now have 4 varying 30cal high power rifles, including 1 assault rifle. I have many HDD's laying around that need, ummmm, reformatted! I am going shooting Sunday and I think I'll take those HDD's along... What say y'all? want some pix? heheh.... Right now I'll start taking my own survey:
What do you think will happen with each rifle: hole, BF Hole, splatterage, complete detonation?

Number 1: SKS Chinese assault Rifle: Cal: 7.62x39
Number 2: WWI British Enfield 2.3 (i think) Cal: .303
Number 3: French MAS Cal: .308 (7.62x54NATO)
Number 4: (My favorite) Ruger M77 mkII Ammo: .300 Winchester Magnum

All HDD's will be standard height drives, and will receive one shot apiece. All except the 300 mag will be about 30yds, the 300, b/c of high velocity will need to be as far away as I can get it. I personally think the 300 Mag will leave nothing but little itty bitty pieces of metal and such strewn about the country side... If you have any pieces of hardware you would like to see get utterly destroyed, let me know, and we may be able to arrange it. heheh...

OK, just so you know, if you have any Microsoft products on those drives, we will not support any problems incurred by the target practice. It's plainly spelled out in your EULA, in case you want the specifics.

However, as long as you don't intend to implement these drives elsewhere, you are welcome to install those products on other systems, provided that you a) are the original licensee and b) still have possession of the printed license with the holographic tape intact.

Unfortunately I'd need a shotgun for that Breakwind... ows (sorry I couldn't resist... https://forums.windrivers.com/ ) You see, firing even my SKS (a relatively low muzzle velocity) at an airborne target would be INCREDIBLY irresponsible. The bullet would land several miles away and potentially cause injury and harm. As far as the scaring you thing, who would you rather the guns be in the hands of: Someone who takes a responsible interest in handling and using them in a safe manner, or someone who thinks they are toys? Not trying to preach or start a gun debate, just making a point... BTW, I plan on adding a shotgun to my arsenal soon... https://forums.windrivers.com/ Believe me though, If I had one, those AOL CDs would be the first ones up in the air... (keep this quiet, but I haven't received any AOL disks in the mail since 4.0, it's kind of scary... nice, but scary... you know, the "it's too quiet syndrome"...)
Regardless of whether I'm getting AOL in the mail, I am getting one annoying piece of tripe... some stupid magazine I made the mistake of letting the telemarketers sign me up for. eWeek... gods, when does it end... they keep telling me it's the last issue, but they keep sending more... please god... end the mailings...

Our certifications are as difficult as they need to be. We at Microsoft have taken long strides toward producing operating systems that are simpler to use and highly scalable. Because of the overall ease of use, the exams are not made to be too difficult. The certification track for MCSE is designed to ensure that our engineers have the core knowledge required to handle most, but not all, "real world" situations, as you call them. However, the certifications are not intended to imply that those who are certified know all there is to know about Microsoft products, but the knowledge they demonstrate in passing the exams is the foundation towards the knowledge that they acquire in dealing with "real world" situations. I'm proud of my MCSEs worldwide, and I'd have any one of them work on our systems in Redmond. Unfortunately, my HR department will not allow me to hire all of them.

Now this is my kinda topic! I once shot a Packard Bell at point blank range with my Colt S.A.A. while it was turned on. The system just sorta froze, with wavy green lines at the top of the screen. I want to do this but I want to weigh the drive before and after in case I cant find enough to put back together after I hit the drive with a .44 magnum Desert Eagle.

By the way, my vote goes to the .300 magnum. Now that is a noise maker!!

Yeah, the winchester is a beefy round, make a nice big hole maybe 1/2" diameter? The SKS shoots that wonderful high speed round.... I vote for it as making the most interesting holes.

Ok, the results are in... and the award for the most devastation goes to- the .308. Unfortunately, even at around 100 yds, all the rifles were to high powered to do more than punch a hole in the casing of the drive, and keep on truckin. The exception was the 308, which is extremely accurate. I nailed the drive once, and it fell over, so I shot it again, determined to give you all some carnage; side-on, i hit it and it went spinning 20 yds more down the field. So I shot it again, and boom, it exploded. The .303 did leave a sizable hole in one of the drives that I hit dead center, I don't think data recovery will be possible. The quantum bigfoot received the attentions of the 300 mag, but as stated before, it left a 1/4" hole on both sides, and barely moved the drive. (water bottles were a different story). The 7.62 was a similar story, it drilled some very impressive holes through platters and casing, but no wholsale destruction. The bigfoot drive, having not been destroyed enough, received the careful ministrations of my 9mm, to make sure it was down. Regardless, I don't think any of these drives will be spinning again. I will load the pix onto my page tonight, and post the link either tonight or tomorrow AM. I think my next experiment with the 300 will be to stack 5-6 hdds back to back, so we can see the required penetration to achieve maximal ballistic detonation.

I have a few keyboard to chair interfaces I would like to have shot. Can you help out???

My Fav's for guns:

1) .50 BMG Barrett Semi-auto rifle. the best fun in 25 pounds or less.

2).223 Steyr Aug. I don't care that they are illegal to import but they look damn kool with the plastic stock and the clear clip.

3) Glock model 36. Small, easily concealed when I go to the Post Office. Gotta watch out for them rogue postmen.

4) Desert Eagle .50 AE. Anybody can feel like AHHHnuld with this thing. Hurts like hell but sure got everybody's attention at the firing range

5) Benelli Nova shotgun. It works smooth and hey, it just set the record for 8 clays shot in the air. Get one but don't let the wifey see how much it cost. That is why I am not married yet https://forums.windrivers.com/

Having shot hard drives before, I find it much more dramatic if you remove the screws to the front plate first. Otherwise you get holes rather than a nice explosion of HD parts.

How dare you refer to anything that fires the 7.62x39 Russian round as high powered. That particular cartridge is inferior to the .30-30 Winchester balistically and everyone knows that the .30-30 was rejected by the US military in the late 1800s to the .30-40 Krag due to better balistics of the Krag.

As for the Enfield, I suspect it to be either a Mark II or a Mark IV (I believe the latter is WWII issue though). The .303 British (which fires a .311/.313 diamater slug), while inferior to the .30-06, may have an advantage over the .308 Winchester as far as ballistics go. I will allow you to call it a high powered cartridge.

The other two (.308 Winchester and .300 Winchester Mag.) are most definitely high powered.

Ah, well, I guess I should probably drop this one before it turns into a huge arguement... Besides, if I were going to waste perfectly good ammo on a hard drive (or any computer component), I would probably use a .357 Magnum.
