Ever been seriously threatened by a customer or aquaintence while on the job?
( should this be in tech tales? )
In a former life I did collections, so yes...I would get threatened reguarly.
Never had a gun pulled on me though, had my life threatened, various body part removal suggestions, insertion suggestions, etc etc.
Hated that job..
Yes, I had a customer threaten me with grevous bodly harm, I told him to grow up and step outside. I then told him I was a sniper/scout in USMC and if he wanted to continue he may want to call home and tell his wife to bring his dental record to the morgue. He backed down and drove away. This was all over a $10 mouse.
I worked on Corporate Security for a company. Once a customer called in complaining. So I get call. He threaten me saying he's going to have me killed or he's going to send a voodoo curse to kill me. I asked him if he knows where he is calling and what department this is. He says yes. Then, I said, you know I deal with Police and FBI agents almost every day. I said, do you happen to know the home phone of the San Francisco FBI Office's Resident Field Agent? He says no. I say, I do. I say you are calling from the pay phone at 1st and Main. I know you live on Main. He's Quiet. I can have Police there inside of 2 minutes for harrasing me. I do favours all the time. Suddenly he gets REEEEAAAL polite.
would that be like if someone said, "Hey, I know this guy who lives at
XXXX Vandike St
Philadelphia, PA 19135
(215)3XX-7543
Just cause he put a link to his website on his profile?"
Yes and they only did it the once........
I am 6'4" well over 250lbs. Threats are not really a problem. And the people that know me know that I have guns.Quote:

The only threat that I take serious is one where lawyers might get involved but I always call the bluff.
In other circumstances (not my tech work) I've had guns pulled on me several times, been shot at a couple, came home to find the front of my house all shot up once.....
I used to do crisis intervention counseling for families with teens involved in all kinds of tragic, nasty things....
Never at work, or outside of work for that matter. I think the closest I came was when a guy bailed me up at an atm claiming I stuck my tongue out at him (is this guy a d**k or what?), evidently he was just looking for a fight.
In Germany we don't repair PCs&Network with guns... so the only thing I could frighten an angry customer could be a crimping-tool (very big and effective though) :D ... the good thing is - they don't have guns either!
Is that really the normal case in USA? Have you all guns in your pockets? ... incredible world... :(
Yes, but luckily the police still haven't found the body.Quote:

Not yet and I'm sure it will never happen. If so, I wouldn't blame myself for what will happen!! ;)Quote:

i've never had a case of being attacked because of my martial arts training. that's not a boast; the training helps to identify potential dangers and avoid.
obviously if i couldn't do that, i'd kick some a$$
Hehe.. I'm glad I'm not an enemy of yours, Larommi! :D :D :DQuote:

I'm the one usually doing the threatening. But I did have a co-worker at a past job threaten to drive by my house and kick my ***. So I called him on it. I went to HIS house, and knocked on the door and rang the door bell for a half an hour. I know he was there, but he never came to the door.
He called in sick at work the next day, and we never heard from him again.
How's about this,Darren? :D What does it mean? :D Or I missed something? ;)Quote:

Not in the civilian world. But in the testosterone heavy USMC infantry during a deployment in not so friendly parts of the globe, or being cooped up on a ship for the majority of 6 months with a bunch of lousy sailors (j/k :D), yeah, its happenned, threats were given and received freely.
in my youngerdays was threatened alot. guns, knifes, pipes, you name it i wounder how i have lived this long sometimes
in the tech world i jave been threatened bye this one guy i dont even remmber why. but it was me and two other techs. one tech was my sparing mate so we know we could kick @$$
and the other guy was just big.. the threat came across and everyone in the place just started to lagh. as i stared the guy in the eyes with a lil grin. he got madder and walked out

Nope, the customers never threaten me with physical violence, but they try to push me around with threats of escalating issues to my boss.
What do I care. My boss knows that I know that he doesn't know enough to run the department without me.
On the other hand, I was mugged once, while on vacation in Florida. Didn't even see it coming. I'm guess I'm lucky they only took my watch, purse, jewelery and coat. I still have the bump on my head from where I was hit.
Wow, I always thought it was Floridians going to NY getting mugged. First I ever heard of it the other way around.....weird. Sorry your experience down here went like that.Quote:

:( :)
Well, I thought like that too, so I wasn't as careful as I would have been in NY. That taught me a lesson . . . don't do so much Special K. Just kidding, watch your back in Miami is the real lesson.
I was in collections also, for a mortgage company. I had a guy tell me he was going to wait in the parking lot and kick my a$$, I told hom that would be fine but he would still be past due on his payment.Quote:

Someone dropped the payment off that day. I never got my a$$ kicked. I find that people are a LOT tougher on the phone than in person.....
It means what it says :D :DQuote:

I need a new pair of boots & fancy some snakeskin ones :D
Cobra, I cannot find your house matey, can you stop by mine so I can skin you :D
Personally, I've never been challenged or seriously threatened.
However, my brother used to work for a repo man, who was called out onto his front porch and shot to death. He got out of that business, fast...
Sure, what are friends for?Quote:

Ahh to be young again......to get threatend on a weekly bassis, to get into brawls, knock some punks head into brick walls..... those where the days (that Im glad are behind me)
i used to work for a rent to own company and ive been threatened plenty of times but the only real danger is when the guy got his pitbull after me but i ran to my van before the dog caught me.
I am surprised that Elbatcho doesn't even read the posts he replys in. You try to give him a hard time, and he doesn't even care...
:D :D :D :D :D :D
I have once while at work, I got in a cursing match with a guy over the phone and he showed up at my work and we got into it face to face, he coulda kicked my ***, I'm only 5'10 and 130 pounds, he waited outside my work when I went out for a smoke he just got in his car and left, when he finally picked up his pc he was very polite, either someone backed me up or he just realized how stupid the situation was to this day I dont know what happened.
When I was working as head tech for a retail computer store, I had a "disagreement" with a customer. The customer was making outrageous claims that I cheated him, stole his parts, or something like that. He started to shoutand make threats. I stood there on the sales floor with my arms crossed as one of my salesmen (very large man recently out of the marines :D ) walked up and stood behind me. The customer quieted down rather quickly and left the store. This is only one of many instances where a customer wanted to kick my a$$.
I've never had a real problem that I couldn't get around. Most people don't threaten me - I'm not big and strong but I am a big fata$$ so most people kind of stay back a little. Guess being a fatty has it's advantages.
I get a different type of threat. being female and tiny and not ugly has its disadvantages, At first I get treated like an idiot and stood over by guys who think they know more than me and when they realise they don't they think that they have the right to me then. They make sure Glen's not there when they come in to the workshop and I had one guy last week tell me that he would give me sex if I got his computer running again. As if I would want it...... I find some of them get really grabby and touchy and I am always wiggling out of situations. Glen likes it sometimes that guys find me attractive but he protects me when they push their luck. Its very threatening when your there to get a job done and your talking to them person to person but they want more and they make their feelings clear. I have had guys hang around at the shop in the evening and even though I had my car I rang Glen to come and get me. I wish they would see me as a technician and not a toy. Its flattering to be liked but scary when it turns like that. Especially alone in the workshop at 5.30 pm on a dark evening....
Moving to Tech Tales
Well, I haven't been threatened, of course I'm 6'3" and 265lbs. I did see a customer wip a remote in the store I used to work at though. It flew across the room and just missed another customer by about 2"!!!
Another salesperson had a customer threaten to bring a TV up and throw it through the front window. The salesperson calmly told him that would be fine, but the police would be there waiting on him, and he would still have to make the payments on the TV!!!
People can be such idiots!

hence the need for a baseball bat to get your point across... :D
Unortunatley it was a weekly basis at one job. I mean everything from death threats to the "i'm going to get you fired idiots" to the idiots that would actualy wait outside for oyu to get off of work. What can I say the only one that I ever took personaly was the threat against my family which oddly eneough the guy while throughing bottles at my car (apparently he had been waighting and drinking) somehow ended up under my car (83 chevy malibu wagon). Of course since the company didn't want any bad publicity no real charges were filed (just drunk and disorderly)
Worked in security in a past life. Was threatened many times ... had knives and guns pulled on me. even been cut a couple of times. Off to the hospital for a tetnus shot as a result. But the big one was someone wanting revenge started calling me at home, stalking that sort of thing ... I've since moved and he has a restraining order on him.
LOL! I am harmless, I only strike when backed into a corner. Sometimes it is more fun to ignore the idiot that thinks he can take me on. They get soooooo worked up its funny. But like I said that is rare.Quote:
