AMD vs. Intel vs. who cares?

In the midst of all of Benchmarking wars....

Which processor do you think is the baddest-*** piece of circuitry......AMD, Intel, or "Who cares, i can't afford them".


I personally like them both but I favor AMD because i have 1000 shares of stock...

Alright everybody listen up...

My vote goes to AMD... the athlon is a kicking piece o hardware.

Thats right , the STAUNCHLY opinionated intel bigot votes for the athlon.

now if we were talking about core logic , then thats another matter altogether.

Cyrix Instead! No, wait. AMD has the speed advantage, most definately, and relative ease of over-clockability. But Intel does have stability on their side, aside from the 820/Rambus fiasco. AMD's weakness is not the chip itself, but the horrible motherboard chipsets, even the best of which have numerous bugs and issues. AMD all the way, never had a problem with either intel or amd but i think amd is a much better company than intel, if the government thinks microft's "monopolizing" activities were bad they should take a look at intel.

Until Intel does something about their prices AMD has me sold!

Don't know how many of you are aware of this, but Intel's had a throat-hold on the market for dual-processor systems.

But wait, there's more!

AMD is working on a new chipset (or whatever it really takes) to allow dual-processor AMD based systems. Imagine:

Dual Thunderbird 1.0GHz system for gaming.

Intel through & through

99% of the systems that come back through the door of the shop (none of them ours as I refuse to sell AMD and it has doen nothing for our sales at all) are Athlon & Duron based systems from other suppliers. If AMD & the chipset manufacturers could sort out their problems then I may use them but until then, I will continue charging customers for their repairs and changes over to Intel based systems.

I am a big AMD Fan but I will be the first to admit I do not own one myself. Several reasons for that the biggest one right now is the Via KT133 and WIN2K issues.If I was running just linux or 98 etc. I would definitely use AMD's.I don't blame anything on AMD accept them dragging a$$ on getting the 760 chipset out and why not manufacturer your own motherboard or two? INTEL does it if they do that and the 760 proves no issues I will own one and I will sell alot more AMD's.I have sold 3 k6-2's and 1 athlon in the last 3 months the rest have been Celeron and P3's. Company wide we have sold around 10 ATHLONS only had issues with one.We got it straghtened out but we are still quoting P3 platform for servers untill we see a better overall chipset.Also Darren what Intel chipset you using these days as your main one?

AMD for home and gaming, Intel for business. Currently the new T-Bird chips are a 50\50 return rate, but when they work they fly. The P3 is great for network applications and I have yet to have a problem with the 866MHz build.

AMD Rulez!!!

Using i815E based boards mainly now, with the QDI Synactix2E being the favoured model. I can honestly say that I have yet to have a system based on this board returned to me yet with any problems. Also use the QDI Winnex1E (i810E)for the basic Web systems and Office configurations and these are very stable also. Only one compatiability prob found witht e Synactix2E board is that the ATI Rage Fury Maxx AGP cards do not seem to like them, which is a minor issue as better cards are available.

Thousands of systems go through our shop each year..... the total number of bad itnel cpu's to date ZERO, (0), zip, nadda, zilch

However, even when building new AMD systems about 10-20% of the CPU's are DOA.

Not saying one is better than the other, amd has a bus advantage and intel has a cache advantage.... what i am saying is that from my experience AMD has poor quality control... it's like they're leaving the quality control up to the system builders.

The customer never sees the bad cpu because it gets pitched into the RMA bin.

Generally if they are not DOA, we might only see one or two go bad in a years time.

the only time our customers ever noticed a problem was with all the bad registries during the whole 300/350MHz Win '95 fiasco... that was a nightmare.

so in the end i choose intel, soley because selling them makes my life easier.
