Welcome to the club!! :D
What is your connection? Cable? DSL?
DSL rocks over cable all day!!! 2.8 Mbps straight to the desktop. It will be ever more once I get the cap removed.
DSL sympatico.
Welcome to the club I am running roadrunner cable Modem at Home and soon at My Shop.
Damn...l got all excited. l thought you had Yahoo! free internet access giving you high speeds ;)
I just moved, and in the interim period when I didn't have cable modem, I used MSN. Does it ever suck ducks. 56K is bad enough, but msn is just unusable.
I wish I had Cable or DSL. I am still running 56k. I guess I need to catch up with everyone else !
yeah, i'm using cable modem. just switched about 2 weeks ago and i never want to go back to dial up! especially downloading those huge iso files (linux)!
Hello,
While high speed access is great....until they drop the prices in my area and make it so it is as flexible as an analog modem is to a travelling PC user...I will stick to my 56k(though I max out at 33.6) connection.. :)
I had cable modem until a few months ago I moved into a new apartment. Its more expensive so I thought I would just use a 10 dollar a month dial up to save money. Boy was that like suicide. I called the cable company and told them to come out TODAY to get me hooked up.
Not happy....everyone has high speed...
Oh well, in may i should be getting 512kbps DSL...one question, is 512kbps worth it? Is it possible to watch most streaming video on?
yeah burnfest that is. You can always set the buffer time for longer periods to.
I am forced to do that with my dial up.
consider yourself lucky, mine maxes at 24,000bpsQuote:

I fear the day that I could be forced back to GASP - ANALOG internet access - AARRRGGGHHH - my cable modem has spoiled me - I am looking for an apartment and my fiancee has all these criteria - mine is simple - can I get a cable modem? If not - I ain't movin'!
I have dsl and with it tweaked, I am getting close to 1mps on a good day never falls below 800k, so nice :D

BurnFEST (a.k.a. Sam Burney)
WARNING: If you get high speed Internet, you will never go back to dial-up.
I'll stick with my T1 :D
Bandwidth that never fails - have had it for two years, with about an hour of downtime over those two years. Only reason for that was cause the shelf that holds our router and CSU/DSU fell off the wall. OUCH!!!

you must be damned clos to a switching station. I average that speed on my cable, yet the DSL users in the area can't even get 1.5Mbps. had a friend of mine cussing at me when he saw my download speed.Quote:

I gotta admit they have great service here in Santa Barbara,CA. But elswhere it's not the same story. the truth is you take chances with either one, but even still it's a heckuva lot better than a 56k connection.
one thing I REALLY liked was that they had a guaranteed 2 hour service call policy here AND they arrived within the first 15 minutes. As opossed to the 4 hour service time and arriving at ( literally) the last minute. And they actually sent I guy who knew his sh*t, as opposed to the wiring guy who needed a cheat sheet and who I eventually had to relieve from the keyboard because he hadn't a clue as to how to set up the network settings. I'll not have a novice computer user mucking up my system, with my knowledge and expertise I can muck it up better than anyone and may I add it is an extremely professional mucking up.
I was bugging Comcast to get cable in my area for months. There are only two other people on my segment as far as I can tell, and they leave their computer WIDE open. Couldn't go back to modem if someone paid me and it was a determining factor when I decided to move.
1. Cable Access?
2. DSL Access?
3. Do I like it?
4. Can I afford it?
5. How old is the roof?
