Kensington mice, don't buy one!

Yesss! 1st post on a new board :)

Anyway, Kensington mice SUCK! Don't buy one no matter how cheap it is!

I have had 3 Kensington mice, 2 wheel ones, and a wheel/optical one. The first wheel one died, the second wheel one has a broken wheel and it's very shaky (yes i tried cleaning it). The optical has a weird clicker so I apparently can't drag anything..I've tried these mice on several computers all with the same problems.

I bought a Logitech optical (always a good brand) but if I was away from the computer for a few minutes, when i went to move the mouse it would behave erratically. i returned it although i wouldn't swear off Logitech..

How good are Microsoft mice?

Your right JungleMan those Kensington Mice are more like 3 blind mice. Bought one for a client from the clearance bin at Office Depot for $8, the mouse lasted about 3 days! :mad:
I've had my Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse for almost a year with no problems (have it hooked as PS/2 instead of USB). My wife's computer has a Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse (USB) for 7 months also no problems. Not much difference though she likes the "feel" of the Logitech better.

I use an M$ Explorer optical and I love it. Had a Logitech cordless before, and I prefer M$'s wheel much more, and the side buttons kick as well.

I don't think I've ever had a mouse (any brand) last more than 9 months.

So far, Microsoft seems to be slightly ahead of Logitech. I've discovered that Logitech's drivers start sucking up 10% of my CPU time after the machine has been on for a few days. :eek: This is totally unacceptable. Fortunately, the mouse works just fine without their drivers, I just lose the "special" button features (that I never used anyway)

I've had Logitech, Microsoft, Kennsington, and generic mice. The best mouse of the whole bunch is the Microsoft Mice. At work I use the MS IntelliMouse Explorer, and at home I user the MS IntelliMouse Explorer Optical. Only problem with the optical mouse is that in USB it had erratic movement when the CPU was being used heavily.

I have 2 Kensigton "Mouse in a box" style mice and they never gave me 1 problem. Olny reason I don't have them anymore is bacause my roomie killed his mice and needed new ones and I needed an excuse to get an optical mouse.

I now use the M$ scroll and the Optical Explorer and never had a problem with either.

Had 'em both for years.

Microsoft Intellimouse on the left, very nice, graphics tablet on the right, and I choose the tablet every time. (Yes I am ambidextrous).

Ok, here goes my $1.02 (I am feeling more generous today than to just give 2 cents...)

My opinion on the whole mouse thing is "mice are for computers at work". I have had for the last 5 or 6 years no mice. For the longest time I had a glide pad by Cirque which kicked some a$$ on most games (that was three or four years ago mind you). Since the glidpad, it has been trackball all the way.

It is the best when it comes to games because optical stuff is the way to go nowadays.

The mice I use around the house are either logitech opticals for the better machines or plain old MS wheel mice for the older machines. They all work great. The microsoft mice are built really well you can drop them and vent your frustration on them all you wan tand they keep going. The logitech does act up sometimes when on usb, however that's due to the fact I'm running an Abit KT7A and i still havn't hammered out all the bugs. Putting the mouse on the PS2 port does fix all the problems and best of all the optical mouse from locitech is maybe 5-10 bucks more then a regular mouse from microsoft.

i`v got a kensington orbit. it`s 3 1/2 yrs old.not one problem it.lucky i guess!

An optical mouse that uses a ball! I'd never have thought of this one for sure. ;)

Been using the Kensington ValuMouse for a few months now. I don't like the "cheap" feel to it and the sometimes erratic movement (even though I keep it clean).

Another brand to completely ignore is Mitsumi. They're crap, period.

I'm saving up for either a Logitech or Microsoft optical.

I am using a Logitech Trackman Marble + , It has a wheel for scrolling and I can also use it for a double click button
This track ball is great in games , I would move to the MS Explorer trackball but it has too may buttons

I have a Kensiko mouse with scroll and side button. It has been working for 2 years. 8 bucks at Staples. Sweet.

For an inexpensive mouse with a quality feel try the A4 Tech OK-720 for about $5 Canadian. We have a dozen or so on campus being used by all sorts of users with no problems.

I love my logitech optical wheel mouse, when you make quick jerky movements with just about any optical mouse they jump around erratically

I have a few kensington opticals and had similiar problems until i installed their latest software. Logitech sucks for gaming and I'm just not overly fond of the microsoft mice. Besides when I throw it against the desk after getting hammered in UT its only 12 bux.

I have had my MS wheel mouse for 3 years and have never had a problem... WOW, maybe MS needs to manufacture hardware instead of software.

The users almost always kill whatever mouse you give them. Being repeatedly dropped on the floor is always good for electro-mechanical equipment in plastic housings. Parking the 17" multimedia monitor ontop of the mouse cable is good, too. Eating your lunch off of your mouse pad is good for longevity, as well. Wrapping the mouse cable up in the workings of the keyboard tray so that the cable gets severed is cool, too.

Logitech OEM PS/2 Wheel Mice -- varying between $9 and $12 Canadian -- are an excellent combination of price and quality of construction.

A4Tec, already mentioned as being very cheap, are also good value, but the mechanics and finishing are a little rough by comparison to Logitech. I hate the ones that scratch along the mouse pad making a sound like fingernails on a chalk board.

Did have a MS INtelliMouse Explorer until my 18 month old son decided to use it as a 'rope' to try to climb onto 'Daddies Desk'. needless to say the cable broke inside and it also blew the PS/2 ports on the KT7A-RAID (both M'bd & Mouse) and they still don't work even after replacing the 'protection fuse' on them. So after having to fork out to replace both K'bd & Mouse (for some reason the MS Internet K'bd I had wouldn't work with the USB convertor), I have 'relegated' myself to a MS Optical Scroll Mouse (damn I miss those side buttons) running through USB & a New MS Internet K'bd with a working USB convertor.

Yes it is the real deal

After a number of years with a plain MS ball mouse, I treated myself to a optical scrolling mouse, the brand name is "Optical Mouse" later I bought another optical scrolling mouse (for the shop) from a different manufacurer thinking they are all the same. There is such a difference that I'm going now to look for another one like the first. I can't say enough good about the scrolling optical made by "Optical Mouse" https://forums.windrivers.com/
