Passed the A+
Ok, I just passed the A+ tests yesterday, so I'm now officially ertified. I'll tell ya, I was really suprised at the test, because it wasn't based so much on what they tought, but there was definatly some realworld experience necessary to pass the exams. Anyways, yippie for me! Now I can go get that damn raise!
-
Big time congrats!!!!
Welcome to the world of being certified!!!
-
Congrats!!!
Now where are you going to take it? (field)
-
way to go!
They must have changet the test a lot since I took it 3 years ago. It dealt with nothing but what was in the books (most of which we all know was wrong).
-
Congrats Quiet Thunder... :) Yeah, about half of the questions are in a "real world" environment. I had 2 questions on Internet Explorer that weren't covered in the book. They bill it as an entry level exam, but if you only had 6 months experience, even with the classroom, you probably couldn't pass it. I got my A+ cert in January and now I'm waiting on the red tape to clear to get my Compaq certs as I've already passed their tests. Now if I could only get a raise........... :p :)

WTG QT!! That's great news. :)
-
Congrats to ya Quiet Thunder!!!
-
Good job and good luck with your raise.

Congrats! Remember this is only the begining...and it will never end.

Yea, that's the exciting AND depressing part of it all.

Congrats,
as I remember on my A+ (2 years ago) there were silly questions on Win3.11 and on Xerox machines...
Oh well, I guess that time is changing.
Whats really bugging me is on how the certification retirement goes.
Anyway,
Cheers!

Yeah, IRQ's, make sure you know all the main ways to make boot disks in all the versions of Windows (inc NT4 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> I remember getting that one wrong).

I remember this, because it was the one area I studied my butt off for, and was kinda angry I didn't have it. But, I passed so, I'm not going to complain. Of course, if I hadn't studied it, the test probably would have consisted 50% of IRQ's. :) They say the test is for people with at least 2 years experience, and that's about right. If you know you're main os' well enough, (Win 98 and Win2k) and remember that there's about a dozen ways to do anything, you should be pretty good on the software portion. The hardware is a bit tricky, as a lot of questions can deal with some VERY extent hardware. Know your history of the processors, and have a good understanding of the major bus types, cards, memory chips, ect...
Also, relax, because I found it was not NEARLY as difficult as I expected. If you have time, memorize the 7 layers of the OSI model, because that might crop up in a place or two.
Wow, several months later and this topic is still on top. Thanks everyone for the words of congrats! Confus-ed, I don't think it expires, but it's always possible. I wouldn't ever put anything beyond them, but I havn't read any expiration dates on any of my documents they gave me once I passed.

I have ELEVEN (count em: 1,2,3,4...11!!) cerifications, all recieved while at the same job, and didn't get a FRIGGIN CENT extra!! (A+, CCIE, MCP, 8 brainbench retard certs)
HOWEVER...
When I LEFT that job and moved on, I increased my pay by almost 40k/year LOL. THAT was nice :D :D
