MicroScope... who's using? who's happy?

So the old sales team from MicroScope calls and they're pitching it to the boss. Of course i've heard of it around here.
We are currently using Troubleshooter, which i use less and less these days since it misses so much...
Anyway, those of you that do use it- would you say you are satisfied with its capability and the support you get from them?

Also the lowest cost we can get them down to is US$599 for MicroScope & their POST card package. Let me know if you think we can get a better deal.

Any unbiased commentary is welcome...

I havnt used a microscope product for years. Must admit when I 1st unboxed the diagnostic card it looked nice, the s/ware seemed great and the instructions were well layed out.
I used it a few times and the diagnostics were spot on......BUT......How many times have we seen faulty memory, system boards, power supplys etc etc. I found myslef not even bothering to plug the card in as I knew what it was going to tell me what was wrong with the PC.

I say save your money or your bosses money and use commen sense instead, u will find it works a whole lot better than a microscope card and s/ware.

OK I know a lot of people out there might use these products and like them but this is only MY thoughts on it.

When I first started, I used to use Microscope and Troubleshooter constantly but found the need for them diminshed as my skills got better.

Our store uses Troubleshooter and Microscope, if you already have Troubleshooter, you do NOT need Microscope.

i use to use Troubleshooter extensively...now i only use the Ram Exam module on a regular basis.
600 bux for a diagnostic program is kinda steep.

We've been using MicroScope 7.04 and 8.0 for the last 2 years.

A large corporation that takes in about $4 billion yearly can afford the $600 that it costs, however, like stated in previous posts, common sense and a knowledgeable tech will diagnose a problem as quick if not better than any software program.

I solely use Microscope to low level format our hard drives. Occasionally I will play around on a system when I have time to see if it finds any issues with the CPU or motherboard.

There's my $.02 worth.

I have used Microscope / Post Probe for 5 years. I am unaware of any other 'Self Booting' diagnostic program. Although every situation is different and I don't need it to diagnose every PC, it gives me peace of mind to rule out certain issues without swapping every part of a PC.

I bought it one year ago for $700 and use it now and than to give me peace of mind and to show the customer the result. I find it easier to explain/show to them that they have to buy new/better memory. Great manual too.

We Have had Microscope for a couple of years now. I only use it in certain instances to check the voltages on a motherbard. It helps to distinguish between MOBO and PS in an ATX system sometimes. That is it.
I would never buy it. We had a branch store that closed down and the partner in that store bought it. It is, as stated earlier, a waste.
The biggest problem is their sales reps call at least every other day. I finally got to where I tell them I dont like the product and then they insist on an hour long discussion as to why. I eventually have to get rude. Then they call back the next day.
Please, get a life.

I use Micro-Scope every single day at work. It is a great program, and it saves me a lot of time. If I get a system in, and the problem with it could possibly be hardware, I run Micro-Scope on it right away. That frees me up, to continue working on other systems, or grab a new one.

I used the old microscope system, It is good to have, I cant see why I woud ever buy the new one! I am sick and tired of them the old Allmicro people and others calling and trying the high pressure sales pitches! They waste way more of my time than the products they sell are worth!

I think there are many ways to attack a problem. I use both the Post Probe and Microscope, not on every PC, but when I use I'm real glad I have it. Also, I find that customers gets discouraged when they see you systematically swapping parts checking for 'known good'. You may have to replace a motherboard anyway but it's better to know why. <IMG SRC="smilies/cool.gif" border="0">

I actually haven't had the chance to use Microscope www.micro2000.com or P.H.D.PCI / Quicktech from Ultra-X www.uxd.com... however, I do strongly believe that any good technician should have some sort of hardware/software diagnostic tool in their toolkit... since I cannot afford either Microscope or Ultra-X's tools, I'm using Tufftest www.tufftest.com. However, like all the other good techies, I'm just using it to test ram and do low level formatting of the drives... it's not that powerful but it does work.

I have used both and have found that Troubleshooter was the more accurate tool for diagnosing problems.

I haven't used Microscope since it's 720k version (4.x?) and I had the version that hung up booting on anything faster than a 486-DX2-50MHz...

i agree that you should be able to troubleshoot which hardware component is bad yourself, HOWEVER, in certain situations i think that it would be usefull. Like in a big shop with MANY pc's to work on it could save you some time.

I say save your money. I have only had limited experience with those diag cards but I never could find a use for em....especially at that cost....OUCH! <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0">
