DW back????
Does anyone here want DW to come back ????
If a good enough response is made here, then I shall put it to him to see what he says.
Hopefully Scott saved DW's user account before it was deleted or could 'hack' the post total back to what it was when DW left (I think it was around 5600, any volunteers to count them ??? :D ) , if DW decides to rejoin us here.
-
Sure we want him back, as good as this place is it just isn't the same without him. I doubt I'd have anyone disagreeing with me.

For once, the jungle boy has the right idea!

Darren was a valuable asset to Windrivers, and I think we all would like to see him back.
I hope that there was no damage to his relationship with Scott during these last few months.
-
COOL! it would be good to see his face again. :D
-
Yep.
Long time no see.
Not in the forums and not in the chat room.....
Come back to us darren, We miss You.
-
-
All for it! Lets see if he will come back.
-
Remember this "So Darren, if your listening, I just want you to come back, PLEASE, your the greatest guy in the WHOLE galaxy, and if you don't come back, well, I understand, your one of the first one's to ever use this site, so, take care, and have a nice life in the can, my micronism thanks you, my computer tapes thank you and I thank you.
PLEASE COME BACK DARREN WILSON!
WE LOVE YOU!

Include me in that ... techs of DW's calibre are as common as rocking horse manure. Not to mention the the incredibly long hours he spends posting.
-
I think the forums were becoming unmanageable to Scott. I've noticed over the last few months that he hasn’t really encouraged use of the forums. There is only 2 links on the front page, apposed to the normal 4-6 links. This plays a major part in the use of the forums, I think.
But overall, I think Darren should return. Maybe not as moderator but a user.
-
Sure, get him back here. It's been kinda dull without him and that Cobra guy bantering back and forth.... ;)
-
Short and sweet.......YES
-
The only people that wiil say no to this topic are goping to be the one's that helped him decide to leave.
Of course everyone wants him back, Maybe a couple of the Mods should Email him and ask him back.
-
Anybody knows any valid email address of him? Send me a PM.
-
A special thanks to Who Me, for taking the time to PM me.
I've just mailed Darren.
-
Not I, said the little blue spaceman... :(
-
By All Means!!!!!!

Why not Steve?
-
If he wants to come back, then he can come back on his own anytime he wants. Nobody is preventing him from doing this other than himself. I agree with Opiate on him being a User...not as a Mod.
I just find it ridiculous that you think that we all have to pool our resources together just to get this guy back. Come on, give me a break!
Just one man's opinion...

Everyone who follows the rules here is welcome. Obviously, that would include DW. No one is special or above any other--each has something to offer. I'm not interested in popularity polls--reminds me too much of those notes we used to pass around in grade school, "Do you like me?" If someone chooses to leave fine, if someone chooses to come back fine. If someone needs to feel like they're doing us all a favor by being here? No thanks.
-
Well all I can say about the negativity, is that obviously there still is an amount of jealousy here still. Sorry but from what I (and others I have spoken to) have seen since DW and the rest departed from here is that the forum has basically become slower & slower in regards to the amount of posts made & successful resolutions to problems. Just one man's point of view and thanks for the support of my suggestion, especially to AlienDyne for taking the time out to email DW directly (I have spoken to DW via AIM and he has recieved it & will reply when he gets chance to).
It seems to still be a 'Witch Hunt' for some though against the person who is still synonymous with this site . :( :(
Don't get me wrong Sowulo, but wasn't it DW who pushed for you to be made a Moderator (if my sources are correct), and now you turn your back on him?
I have not seem any post in which DW has broken any rules or posted something that has not been the truth (or that he has admitted that he was wrong after posting a answer that was not quite full), so why single DW out as the one that posted all the crap or instigated all the crap a coupe of months ago???

"Jealousy?!?" You're dead wrong...I don't even know the guy. How can I be jealous?
"Forum has become slower?" That is possible...I know that I still get frustrated with that.
"Successful resolutions" --more and more people are getting their problems resolved every day. More and more people are registering every day. It might be hard to believe, but DW didn't have anything to do with it.
BTW, Scott (Mr. WinDrivers) is the one name that is synonymous with "WinDrivers"...not someone who is not even around anymore.
As for Sowulo becoming a Mod, a lot of people had inputs on that...not just DW.

Now that we know that Darren has probably read this link
I what to be the first to say
WELCOME BACK DW!!!!!
-
I won't even pretend to know what exactly transpired to cause DW to leave in the first place. I don't think it matters.
From my standpoint, his posts were informative and useful almost every single time on technical issues.
Maybe his decision to leave should be respected though. I'm not saying his presence wouldn't be beneficial - on the contrary.
But unless this thread was started with Darren's approval (implied or stated), I don't see requesting for him to return to be respectful of his decision. Is this the case? Does he know this thread exists?
-
I have just asked DW on AIM if he knows this thread exisits, and he does as AlienDyne sent him the link in his email earlier & I also put it to him last night as well just after I posted. He has no problems with this thread, and looks forward to seeing what the outcome is on the matter.
He says 'Thank You to the people who have expressed support', and I won't repeat what he said to those who are knocking him, which funnily enough are a couple of the Moderators.
BTW Don, I asked DW regarding the 'Moderator' situation and it was indeed himself who pushed Sowulo to become a Mod by bringing it up in the Mod Room as a topic if you would like to check this out. if you want to contact DW directly regarding this his email address is not that hard to find as he has also told me that it was in his parting post that SherrifQ posted in the Mod room on his behalf. The vote was then cast (as started by DW) to which a unaminous verdict was decided and upon speaking to other ex-mods this was to become the downfall of the peaceful situation that was here previously). Sorry but I have been told this by other ex-mods who used to be on here who have since departed also.

AGreed,
and I'm sure he knows this topic is here Aliendyne has emailed him about coming back or something of the sort and I'm sure Darren has scrolled through the forums to see this topic. Wouldn't You.
Anyone can talk to him anytime on the DSB Forums.

I never said one thing bad about DW--where are you reading that? I said, "Everyone who follows the rules here is welcome. Obviously, that would include DW." The "obviously" was in reference to the fact that DW never broke any rules that I'm aware of." I have no grudge against DW. He knows what I tried to do to help out when he was in desparate times last winter. He left for his own reasons and he is always welcome here if he wants to come back. Lots of people who were here and posted very valuable help have come and gone since I first started coming here. If any return that I recognize, I welcome them but I wouldn't think of begging someone to come back who chose to leave for whatever reason. I have not turned my back on DW. Why would I do that? However like all here who I consider my friends, I would treat him special either. As per your final comment. I have never, nor have I seen anyone else ever blame DW for posting or insighting the posting of any of "the crap" to which you refer.
I would suggest you get over it and let it go. DW's a big boy who can make his own decisions for any reasons he wants. He doesn't need any of us to tell him what to do.
-
DW and I are, have been and will forseeably always be on good terms. As for any one who is currently a moderator, they are a moderator because they deserved and are to this day helping to keep the board in line, free of charge to all. As for anyone coming back, good..great...wonderful, but I won't let it degenerate into what it had become, ever again. I've just completed a month long process of converting and standardizing al of the pages on WinDrivers, it's thousands ofpages and it is all pretty much re-written. As for the slowness of the forms, I think I just fixed it, oddly enough, there were a few version of perl on the server and I had always overwritten them, I got the latest version today and decided to uninstall all the previous versions and perl which used to take up to 98% cpu utilization is now down to 2%. As for me, I'll be getting more noticeable and if the forum speed holds up, I'll start promoting it again, to get more people in. I've also cut the company forums down from 1100 forums to about 300 main ones and one catch all, so that should help matters. Well......enough for now.
-
DriverGuy, I wasn't on about the actual server speed of the forums in my previous post, but the amount of actual posts that are being made daily.
You must admit that since DW departed (and the rest) the post rate has dropped a lot, and instead of having pages that were all one date on last post it is now showing maybe a few forums showing double figures in the amount of replies made compared to what it used to be.
I will ask DW to email you to see if anything can be sorted out if he decides to reregister.
-
I know that you didn't mean forum speed, but that is a big part of it. As far as less posts, it's mainly only in the tech lounge, if people use the tech lounge and enjoy it, great, if not, this site is not about the lounge, it's about tech help, and as long as people are getting helped, that's all I really care about.
-
Personally I would love to see DW come back as well as the others who have left.
They were and still are a great source of information.

Agreed. I also found post rate slow down last few months being compared with what used to be before Darren's gone. May be,it's not connected with Darren, but it is fact. You're no more can get fast responce inspite of seems to increased number of registered members. Why? What's happened? Where is old Mayhem, Mustang, Thirdfey, and many other of cool techies? Man,I seriously worry about Windrivers forum's health :(
Without peoples like Darren,Cobra, and even...yes,JungleMan :D Windrivers can became boring forum like many other. And only extraordinary peoples are real and true assets on almost every forum,IMHO.
Another few negative things (may be for me only) I found recently. Windrivers forums really slow down in speed (this time I mean browsing speed),I constantly loosing connection with Windrivers (while another sites works fine).I have sent replies and some of my my replies were lost on the way to Windrivers. Had to rewrite my posts again from scratch. May it's just me,though. Sorry, just only my feelings.
And of course,I wish to see Darren again and again on these great forums. Cheers! ;)

Maybe you should edit that post, to make it a little more clear. It really looks like you are stepping out and opposing people coming back.
-
I know Darren, since my very first post here. I've said that before. During the two years Darren and I used to post here, I've seen him upset for a couple of times. He even said he was going to leave Windrivers and he wasn't just kidding. Then, he suddenly changed his mind and stayed. I'm pretty sure he won't come back in the near future because he would be already here without an invitation.
I mailed him today to tell him about this post and why not? Make him reply at least to this particular thread. To me, Darren is not a fellow-Mod, a good guy or an excellent Tech. Darren is a very good friend and I'm willing to keep it that way from my side. Nobody (including myself) will make him return, I'm afraid. I agree with Don. He will return only if he wants to return.
On the other hand, I don't think that someone or some of us made him leave. He left due to the circumstances.
Although he hasn't replied to my message yet, I believe he's alright and he has read this thread.
Oh.. and something else. Sowulo became a Mod because all the other Mods voted for him.
Another regular user who asked Scott to make him a Mod the same time with Sowulo didn't got accepted.
I don't know if Darren pushed for Sowulo to be made a Mod. The only thing I know is that EVERYBODY voted for him on the Mods Room. Sowulo does a terrific job!
Hey, JWW. Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to be the smarta$$ here. It's just my point of view.
Lighten up guys. That's the best thing we can do right now.
That's it. I'm outta here!
I'm falling asleep...
Later. ;)

I havent been around much lately because of work and college but I still think that it would be great the have DW back, he was and always will be the WD king....sorry scott, you are prince WD
