Just Wondering....
Have any of you bought or seen in action one of these X10 cameras that is displayed on virtually every website I visit? I am considering buying one or one similar and the tools necessary to transmit video over the web. I was just looking for any negative feedback, if any, that any of you might have.
TIA
Mark.

ummm all i know is those ads are phucking annoying as hell

Why not just get a Logitech camera? The only problem is that they don't have remote swivel like the x10's, but they are a lot better made.
-
DON'T DO IT!!!
I've seen them, held them in my hands, and quickly shoved them back into the waiting hands of the person they belonged to!!
You MUST have the camera's transmitter in direct line of sight with the reciever. And, not to mention, it's not completely wireless. The camera has a thick black wire going from the back of the camera to the transmitter.
Not only that, but I've heard some people say that the picture is horrible to boot! You'd probably get a better bargain, and picture, if you used a web cam (and a cheap one at that).
Cheap pieces of cr@p!!!! :p :p :p
Step away from the mouse! Don't give into temptation....don't do it and you'll feel better about yourself tomorrow.
But then again, this is just my opinion.

I haven't purchased anything yet, like I said, I was looking for feedback from people who have experienced them in use. I probably will buy a webcam, but I don't know which brand. It doesn't necessarily have to be color, but it needs to be able to stream over net with good quality, as it will be used for security purposes.

I got a couple X10 cams a while ago and the picture is terrible. Even with the receiver right next to the transmitter, the picture was fuzzy and of low quality, but what do you expect from a cheap CMOS camera.

You might find this useful: http://www.epinions.com/cmhd-Webcams-All
IMHO, "high quality webcam" is an oxymoron. They all suck. I have yet to see one that provides a decent picture, even the expensive ones are junk from what I've seen.
My advice: buy a digital camera that you can also use as a webcam and hook that up to your PC. Generally much better quality and you get two products in one.
-
yeah I own one, pretty tight cameras.
I got it when they had a sale. I got the comander vcr hookup and a camera with battery pack. for $80
I hook it up to my remote control car and drive it around
goes pretty far nice color picture I was supprised

wow really?>
I have my reciever in my room and I take the camera out side and its fine goes about 150 - 200 meters and it works fine

If you want real security. Get yourself a a VHS and security camera, get one that retapes over itself every 48 hrs or so.
That is probably your best defense.
Is this security only for when you are able to monitor it? DO you want to be able to record the images?
-
i have a remington security camera (black & white , none pc)
if you remember a while back i put a post because some piece of sh*t threw eggs at my car.
the only thing i could think of is it was between this girl i know or some stupid retarded kid.
well my camera shot a good image and it was wireless and i had it setup on a 6 head vcr and had it keep recording. image popped out on my tv since i cant connect to pc.
my security cam and reciever was like 30 bucks.
cant you buy a regular cam and buy some kind of coverter for it for it can be seen on pc.
im thinking of maybe buying digital camcorder instead of web cam that way i can use it for two things.
but they are kinda pricey. do you guys know of places that sell good digital camcorders for good prices?
-
Does anyone know of some kind of hub or switch that would allow you to monitor multiple cameras (without spending more than $1500) and capture video either all the time or on a motion sensitive bases? How about night vision? Can I make this more impossible? :D
-
The X10 video camera contains a large security risk. Anyone with a receiver in range of your camera can view the images by changing the channel on theirs.

Isn't that the fun of it? :D

ooh, thanks for all the feedback guys. That screensavers article was really the kicker. I think I have found a way to "retrofit" my sony digicam to my pc and into a vcr to record. It has RCA hookups as well as a cool firewire connector. I hae been experimenting, and now am able to view the images at real-time framerate on my PC. Do any of you know whatr I will need to attach to say, a website, to allow me to view the images?
Oh, and iateyourcat, my digicam has the cool nightshot feature, the first generation, that will let you see through clothes! Wo0T!

Check out the software that this guy uses. Updates via a java app on the webpage once a second.
