That's awesome, Scott! If you make it big, don't forget all us poor schmucks at WinDrivers. https://forums.windrivers.com/ https://forums.windrivers.com/ https://forums.windrivers.com/
Maybe we should have a WinDrivers PC oriented comedy show. That would rule!

I used to be an actor.
By "actor" I mean I used to work at a lousy service job in Los Angeles... just like 90% of all other "actors" in L.A. But at least I never wasted my time trying to audition for anything.

Ah, I, too, am an actor.
When I have to tell a customer that they didn't screw something up even though they told me they did,
Whenever my boss says something stupid and I don't puke laughing,
When someone who knows better does something assenine
I am an actor.

Sounds like you shouuld get some tips from the wayward clam, I think he's into this kinda stuff too. Good luck with it https://forums.windrivers.com/

On the job I act all the time:
I act surprised at user errors, I act sincerely interested in the problems of others, I act busy when the "water cooler guy" comes by my office,...
They just haven't gotten around to recording any of my best acting on film yet!

As long as I can make myself laugh, I consider myself a comedian.
Actor? I used to be a magazine and promotions model for JC Penney’s, Sears and The Buckle. I was around 14 to 18 years old. I got allot of free cloths, so it was worth it.
I've always wanted to be in major motion pictures, L.A. here I come...... But over all SNL would be a dream come true. Will Farrel and Jimmy Fallon are the best!

Any possibility of you posting your scripts or standup acts in here?
Is any of it "IT" oriented?
You could probably write up a book with the Tech Tales forum on its own! https://forums.windrivers.com/

Scott, I am indeed a professional improv comedian (got a show this Sunday night, in fact), and I would be more than happy to offer advice or inside info on any particular questions you might have. Second City is a fantastic place to get started, they are some of the best and funniest in the world. Improv training, even if you don't continue on to the performance world, is fantastic for giving you confidence, public speaking skills, the ability to adapt mentally to new situations, and the ability to think creatively on your feet. Plus, you will meet a LOT of interesting people and new friends. I am very happy to hear you are doing this! Maybe someday we will meet on stage...
Adept: I have been considering posting some of our group's scripts here before (we do both sketch and improv comedy), but haven't checked with my director yet as to his approval... we have done a couple with computer themes and one was directly inspired by Darren, but for the most part they are not "geek" humour because we don't have audiences that are mostly "geeks", even though we are...

In another lifetime, I USED to be known as Wayward Clam. But the Powers That Be have spoken, so who am I to argue...?
Go for it Scott - there is nothing quite like being someone else in front of lots of other people!
Nor nothing quite like the stares you get from other drivers while you learn you words at the traffic lights!
I used to belong to an amateur dramatics society and enjoyed it thorougly, though I made more costumes than I had speaking parts! Maybe I will rejoin when the kids are old enough not to heckle! https://forums.windrivers.com/

Never ever approach a computer saying or thinking, "I will just do this quickly"
Oh yeah, plus I forgot to mention, for anyone else thinking about trying it, it is a HELLUVA LOT OF FUN. https://forums.windrivers.com/

I suppose I am an actor as well.
Though I've been acting for well over a decade, I've decided to stop acting as much and focus on directing. I hold auditions for, the Lion in Winter by James Goldman, this Sunday.
Acting is a great time. You meet the most interesting people doing it. I don't really like to do musicals though. It takes a different mind set to do those. Plus, a lot of singers are kind of like prima donnas. I don't find the same cockiness in actors. In my experience, actors are a lot easier to work with.
This past summer I created a Shakespeare performing company. I co-produced, co-directed and acted in a Shakespeare variety show. We had 15 actors and I invited a rennasance(sp?) vocal group to perform. It was great. We made a little money and had an incredible turn out for our first time out.
I would definately encourage anyone to give acting a try. And there are other things that you can do if you don't want to act, such as: lights, sound, set design/building, ushering, stage manager, etc.
------------------
Hehe, you're silly.
I used to fancy myself an actor..... Drama Club in High School and Community Theatre stuff in college and my first few years working. I also did alot of lighting and other tech stuff once they figured out that I was technically inclined. It was always fun but I can't seem to find the time for it anymore.
Directly inspired by Darren?! We *have* to see this https://forums.windrivers.com/Quote:

Improv acting, eh? I was a member of the prestigious Bless The Mark Players for this summer's Sterling Renaissance Festival.
Interactive/improv theater is a lot of fun -- don't start doing it, if yo ucan help it. After doing improv theater, all other jobs are too boring to stay awake for.

Allow me to preface this by saying it is not intended to be offensive to gays and is not intended to imply that I think Darren is gay.
My comedy group, the Wayward Clams, have performed a sketch partly inspired by DSB and Darren... he and a couple of others have asked for the details... I have not put the script here (it is copyrighted by us) but have summarized it below.
Two guys start on stage, it is revealed that one of them ordered an experimental robotic love doll from the Real Doll company. He is really excited and wants to show it off to his friend. However when they unwrap it it is revealed that a mistake was made, instead of shipping them "Jenna" like they were supposed to, they shipped the version for the ladies--"Rocco". (Rocco also came with a bag of toys he was programmed to use.) The one guy wants to ship him back, the other guy thinks he would be useful for practical jokes and things, they get into a fight over the remote control and smash it, with Rocco stuck in "Homosexual, Aggressive, Dominant" mode. He chases them all over the theatre while they struggle to evade him and find the emergency shutdown instructions in the manual. One of them is assigned to distract the robot long enough for the other to find this information, "Rocco" puts bunny ears on him, the audience found his expression of horror hilarious... then it is revealed the emergency off switch is between the buttocks. Rocco has handcuffed the guys together, and they can't get at it without letting him at them. He is swinging a large sex toy at them... one of them grabs another one out of the bag of goodies and he and Rocco have a fencing duel using sex toys, to keep him busy, but even this doesn't allow the other guy to get to the off switch. Finally, "Rocco" gets one of them, and the other one shuts him down, the last scene is of the one guy bent over on stage, Rocco bent over top of him, and the other guy bent over Rocco with his hand down the back of his thong (to turn the switch off)... the audience was pi$$ing themselves laughing at this point... then the deactivated doll is thrown aside and the guy tries to help his friend, who goes "Dude! You've gotta try this!" and then chases his own friend off stage. The scene ends with "Rocco" lying deactivated on a stage full of assorted adult toys. It was the last sketch before our intermission, so we simply had him stand up in his thong and announce drinks in the lobby.
I played the guy who originally ordered "Jenna", and my director Mike played the guy who, er, got it in the end. None of our group are really the type who could be considered boy toys, but the guy who played "Rocco" was Danny, our youngest and probably our most romantically active one. And yes, all he was wearing was a leather jacket and a very thin thong.

In another lifetime, I USED to be known as Wayward Clam. But the Powers That Be have spoken, so who am I to argue...?
Hahaha! I can't imagin you reaching down some guys thong to switch his "thingy" off.

How exactly is Darren involved in this?
You just *have* to tell us now! https://forums.windrivers.com/

It was a very loose connection, first off it was his, Cobra's, and a couple other people's discussion of the Real Doll company that first inspired me (That and the Buffybot from Buffy The Vampire Slayer) and then I needed a name that the company would give to the robotic male lover... and his alternate persona of Rocco Siffredi struck me as the perfect thing to model a doll intended for women off of.
The gay angle came about because one of the funnier things I do when writing sketches is to put people into positions where they are completely and totally SCREWED, so badly that you can't help but laugh at them or in sympathy with them... for example, another favourite sketch of mine involves the aftermath of a guy picking a fight with a hypnotist. You can imagine what happens to him. https://forums.windrivers.com/
In the case of "Rocco" the "screwed" part just turned out to be a little closer to the truth than it normally does... https://forums.windrivers.com/

I've worked back stage on a few shows. Positions referred to as "TECHIES". My fiance' teaches Design and technical theatre at Arkansas Tech University. I have also played a cowboy in "Crazy For You."
Recently, I moved and pulled an all nighter clean and painting the house. The University Theatre dept had just opened a student written project and were having an open mike cast party after the show. Tired, dirty, and sleep deprived as I was I improved what has since been titled "A Good Day For A Homeless Man in the Park." It involved the homeless man finding a bag of sunflower seeds and a cold half drank Coke.(The contents of my camo jacket) Cracking the seeds by hand, inspecting each kernal, generally, treating each seed and sip of coke as if it was steak and wine. No words with only an occasional grunt.
Unfortunately, I lost to an original song. It was written in tribute to a beautiful 22 year old guaduate student who flirts but is a dedicated virgin entitled, "No Vagina."
