Default's Deny video!!

Don't know if anyone here is a fan of the Rock group Default or not.

Anyway, they have a new video out called Deny!!

It features Boxing Legend Muhammid Ali's daughter in this video.

Default is a fluffy corporate band. They suck, just like their friends Nickleback. They're so freaking mainstream and have no uniqueness what-so-ever. I wouldn't even let my deaf, blind, retarded cousin listen to them!

ATTENTION Radio stations around the globe! Please quit airing this pussy rock music. They have absolutely nothing to offer the music industry.

sorry...music is a very touchy subject for me.

I am also very unclear on what opiate is trying to say. Is it a diatribe on the relativity to the sounds of distortion, or is it just sharing my view that music has never been the same ever since that fateful night we lost Richie Valens(sp?) and Buddy Holly in that flight from hell?

Nickleback's problem seems their desire to be famous rather than their desire to make music. Even tracks like 'Leader of Men' and 'Never Again' which have fine moral undertones are missing that feeling of anger in the vocals which would have made them better songs. Chad just doesn't have enough angry growl - think Hetfield on 'The God That Failed' or 'Disposable Heroes' or even DiamondHead's front man on 'Helpless' for the requiste vitriol.

In their favour, they don't suck quite so much as those gymbunnies-turned-MOR-fretw*nkers, Creed.

Actually Nirvana is my generation. Yes, they opened music up for a lot of other bands, good or bad. But it doesn't change the fact that I would rather listen to a dieing platypus than listen to Kurt Cocain ramble on incoherently in a rather weak song by todays standards while some self proclaimed super critic/lover of the music is sitting in the corner telling me how deep and emotional the songs are and how I should really let myself go and listen to the words and feel what they were trying to portray to a simpleton like me.

But then again, I just live by the if it sounds good, then I will listen to it philosophy. I think Default and Nickleback have a good sound. Heck, I even remember first hearing Hootie when they were just a college band, and I still like some of their original stuff. I ain't ashamed in saying that.

SO let me get this straight. For some reason a big chunk of people think these bands and others like them are all sucky corporate junk. That in turn entitles those of us who could really care less and just enjoy the music, to have to sit throught the ridicule of those that feel they are more enlightened than the masses.

Do not disagree with the enlightened few or face the wrath of their sarcasm and hatred of the corporate machine that gives us music, good or bad. Once a band has "made it" they have instantly sold out, because now they are apart of the corporate structure and the music that we all previously liked, is now junk.

Please tell me if I am wrong in these assumptions(which you will anyway). Also, could someone explain to me how I too can know when a band "sells out" or has become corporate so I too can change heart instantly and suddenly hate their music.

Not because of the black/white thing but because they are very classy musicians.

Don't you remember back when there was all the makeup, drug and sex stories about the 80's rock bands. I'm 24 and remember my very first cassette that a friend recorded for me. N.W.A (rap of mid 80's). I must honestly say that that tape really changed my outlook about music. Not just as a artistically view but how raw and powerful music is. The 80's glamour bands really seem to have an impact on this stand-still of today's rock. Nothing ever changes with these types of bands. They will make 2-3 albums then drop of the face of the earth. And album after album uses the same style as the last one. The only thing differences are the lyrics. It's almost as if bands like Nickleback are satisfied with mainstream and don't have enough balls or effort to be creative. Take Tool for example. Now that's a band with balls and creativity. No other band in the world sounds like Tool. Why? Because they are everything but mainstream and it almost seems like they are 10 steps ahead of everyone else.

I brought Nirvana up mainly to set a uniqueness mode. You are right about some of Kurt's songs being lame. But he also changed mainstream and created a empty brain for the 80's rock bands. The 80's couldn't compete with Kurt because he was on the next level. My point is that music needs to change instead of doing circles.

By the way, Kurt did not invent the "Grunge" sound, it was sitting in Seattle for a long time. He just happened to get famous first, or maybe even sell out with a video first(hmmmmm :D )

i have to agree with opiate on this one, default and nickelback, along with alot of other so called "rock" bands suck. i just get really sick of the "TRL" bands. i don't know if its because i'm tired of their music, or maybe they're over exposed, or a combination of both. and i used to be a nickelback fan.

But once again, we are talking of opinion. To me, music, like movies and other art forms, is all in the eye of the beholder. It is all what you make of it. Music to me should be something that recreates memories, evokes emotions, or is something that is pleasing for me to hear. Music does not have to be something that continually pushes the envelope, so to speak. Was Stevie Ray Vaughn horrible because he played the blues? Was Elvis that much less after only singing old standards?
I think a lot of these so called sell outs create good listening enjoyable music. If they didn't they wouldn't sell. Be creative and ground breaking all you want, if you don't sell and nobody appreciates it, you are still a starving artist, period. If you create what the masses want, you are successful monetarily, you have fun, you are generally enjoyed, to me you have made it.

<hr /></blockquote>ok, i have to agree with that, leader of men is a good song. i also have to agree with the rest of your post. its just hard to accept that "pop" music has taken its place in rock music. i mean, this is my music. i can accept the whole backstreet, brittney, n'sync ect ect invasion because its pop music. everyone knows it sucks and we don't think of any of them as serious musicians. but when our rock groups start going "pop" is when i start worrying.

I did not post this topic to start a big debate about what bands are good, crappy, manufactured, creative, who sold fans out, and so on.

As a matter of fact, I don't give a Rat's A$$ about any of that stuff.

I only posted this topic with a link to Default's new video, because I liked the video and the music involved and I thought about sharing it to other forum members and guests if they are interested.

If not, then ignore my topic and move along!!!

I respect everyone's opinions here, but I do want to be responsible for starting a flame war here like amd vs. intel or anything else like that.

Well Cookin Chef, I like the video and their new song.

Each person has their own opinion on music, so be it. I have been trying to discover new music myself by other means. I dont put total stock into what the radio plays. BUT if you like a certain song and then it starts appearing on the local bubble gum pop radio station every hour, does it make that song bad? No, only if you hear it too much.

I started liking Linkin Park about the time of the song that has the line of "One step closer to the edge and Im about to break"....
Because I have heard their song Crawling on the bubble gum station doesnt make me hate Linkin Park.
