No matter what Taz says I still wil play Quake 3 over UT1-2 or 3 any day... It still moves the same SUCKY.. Moves like they are trying to throw up in the process. Nope Ill still go frag some on Quake before I insert a UT anyday..

The fact is that UT2K3 is NOT Unreal 2. Unreal 2 WILL be much better then both.:DQuote:

Denial.....
As for UT2K3 playing like crap, it doesnt look very good at all on anything less than a GF 3 with at least 1ghz, its a new game, its expected. As for Q3....its been out since the time of my voodoo 3 1000
Games like doom, quake, counter strike, diablo, wolfenstein, lara croft and many others have created legacies for themselves. They will be around for a while.
Like Tazz and Morti already said, it's a win-win situation for both. Don't know how well that works in the kill ratio, but Taz gets his new game to himself (selfish ba$tard) ;)
and Morti likes a legacy game.
Fair Enough.
Quake's the best, but I can't get my to run. See my topic, "Can anyone help me?"
Another case of denial :rolleyes:Quote:

Quake 3 rules. Period.
And before that, Descent 2 ruled. :D

The funny thing is Morticia is starting to play UT2003 single player.   ;)
Humm, not that I have anything against Quake, mainly because I don't play it and have limited playing time on it anyways, but from playing UT for the past 3 years I have yet to find it's equal in playability (CTF, DM, TDM, DOM, Assault) and million other mods you can play. GG Quake CTF, give up, and they charged people for that mod, ahahah, whatever. As for UT2K3, well, I like to call it Quake2K3, cause that's what it is. They took most of the old weapons and weakened them and introduced the Rail Gun (ie, Lightning Gun), replacing the sniper rifle. Granted you can dodge like UT, and the gamepace is fast like UT, it just looks like Quake. They have even remade Quake maps and included them with the Retail Release, how retarded. As for now, I will continue to play UT, with UT2K3 in the wings when the professional community makes the move or they patch it to where it's playable. As a side note, I have it on the lowest settings and I get nearly 85fps and no more. My specs are AMD xp1800, 512mb DDR, KT400 MB, GF3. What a joke, I run UT high everything and pull 120fps easy at 1280x960. Oh well. GG Epic and DE, way to f**k up a good thing. :(
Unreal rules.
Not that I am at all biased. Q3 wasn't even as nice or playable as Q2.
Q2 is darker and much more atmospheric. Q3 died on its but at our studio. We played Q2 non stop for a couple of years.
As far as FPS go I think UT, Counter Strike and Halo whoop Q3.
just my humble but 100% accurate opinion. :p
This aint a :flame:
You know Tootall, I have been looking through the UT2003 official forum over the last month or so because I have been truly looking forward to this game. I used to be bigtime into Quake 3.Quote:

I went so far as to downloading the leaked version of UT2003 and I loved it. So what if I downloaded the leaked version because it didnt turn me against the game because of the bugs. I legally own a copy of UT 2003.
But Tootall, out of all the time I was looking in the UT 2003 forums, I found so many idiots to compare UT2003 demo to Quake 3, since that is apparently a big slap in the face. And after looking through the forums, I was truly disappointed. Was the Unreal Tournament community a big bunch of whiny crybabys that was ticked off because Epic and Digital Extremes didnt totally kiss their butts and scrap their entire programming just so they could make a total rehash of UT? It makes me wonder how many Quake people were majorly ticked when Quake 3 came out "Its got too many colors" "It dont have enough browns I will never buy the game"
Tootall, you truly disappoint me. Here Epic and whoever else went through three years worth of programming and there are people like you that just are never truly satisfied. They changed the sniper gun to make all you camping snipers actually develop dodging skills. Heaven forbid that you may have to move around and not camp and just pick people off.
It just looks like Quake. Dude, lay down the crack pipe cause the only version of Quake it may resemble is Quake 4.... but we got another year or two before Doom 3 comes out and then another 3 years to wait for Quake 4.
Remade Quake maps? The closest one I can acknowledge that on is the Inferno map..... so UT makes a hellish looking map and it is accused of having Quake maps remade.
Did you even know that Liandri and Deck 16 has been remade for UT2k3? No, I guess you havent. One of the Deck 16 maps is an incredible work of art. I havent had a chance to play on the Liandri map yet though.
Did you know that someone came out with a mutator for the lightening gun that takes away some of the trailing of the shot and increases the rate of fire? No I guess you havent.
You can dodge like UT and the gamepace is fast like UT but it LOOKS like Quake. <---- :bor: :bor:
Fine Tootall, you dont like UT 2003. I guess it is scary realizing you need to re-evaluate your skills. I guess it is scary going into a game and being a newbie again.
I find people who have made this same rable on like you funny. I tell you what...... you stick with UT. Thats just fine by me. It makes more room for me out there on the UT 2003 servers. I admit I aint the best at it but the whole idea is to have fun. It is a game after all.
When you sayare you trying to say that until some mod maker spends a great deal of time programming until he can make UT 2003 look exactly like UT and play like UT, you are gonna stick with UT? The only thing that needs patching on the game as far as I can tell is the SecureROM feature and add the IRC client. That is it.Quote:
As for now, I will continue to play UT, with UT2K3 in the wings when the professional community makes the move or they patch it to where it's playable.
So man, enjoy UT cause I know I will be enjoying UT 2003. Double Domination and Bombing Run are two perfect additions to this fine game that I guess you will never enjoy. I know I enjoy them.
Oh well.
One last thought.... if Epic and Digital Extreme kept going back to the drawing board when the community said they wanted this or that.... would any game ever come out?
Your side note of your FPS on UT compared to UT2003 totally cracked me up. How old is UT? How old is UT2003? Its gonna be another year or two before any computer will be able to run UT2003 at full resolution at high FPS. Isnt what they say that the human eye can only see 30 frames per second? So as long as you are above 50, and the game play is good, who should be complaining? I got an Athlon XP 1800 and I could care less what the FPS is.... as long as it plays good. For all I know, I bet I have layed the smack down on people who are getting 10 to 20 FPS faster than me.
BTW the only reason my wife created this thread was an attempt to get under my skin.... which it didnt. She is big onto Quake 3 but she has been playing UT 2003.  :eek2:
UT 2003 is just like anything else, if you dont like, you dont have to buy. There will be plenty of people who will like and enjoy and appreciate the game.
Well, since I havent had the pleasure to play UT2003 yet, I will say that I'm gonna be playing Quake 3 over the weekend!
Cya.
I must admit to this in public, for the sake of being open and honest about it...
If I had the hardware to handle it, I would play UT2003. :D
Could it run on a dual PIII 1GHz with 512Mb PC133 RAM under Win2000 Pro? I'm thinking of saving up my lunch money for an MSI GF4 4200. Maybe I should consider being a human lab subject to get the extra cash...
Anyway, that's what I'm shooting for, and I may have finally convinced my wife (the de facto Minister of Home Finances, 'cuz I'd probably spend it faster than it came in :p ) that this could tie me over for the next year without much complaining on my part.
I can check out the minimum requirements online, but I'd like some straight feedback from current users to see what they would recommend.
Woah there buddy, seems like you don't like my ut2k3 bashing. Just for the record, I went out for a week straight to stores to buy the game and I finally bought it for $45. I also had the pre 927 alpha and the 927 beta. I also played the demo, and I have to say, the final release really didn't make any improvements over the demo, thus the reason why they are working so frantically on the patch.
Here we go, time to get into the good.
<begin rant>
Right now I feel UT > UT2K3, the main reason is playability. If I get into a battle and I can barely see what's going on because my fps drops to 20, what good is it? I have a decent machine, granted it's not top of the line, but hell, it's way above what they recommend. Have you tried playing on the low requirements? What about the recommended machine? Didn't think so, cause it's freaking impossible. I know people with top of the line P4 2.53ghz machines with GF4's that has crap FPS. What good is it to have that type of machine if the programmers aren't going to optimize the code to play at the highest settings. Granted UT is aged and the technology that was around when it came is is very dated, but you can play it with a voodoo 1000 or a TNT card, no way in hell you can do that with 2K3.
The graphics in 2K3 are unbelievable, but it should be playable, that's my only rant on that. I'm not going to go out and spend $400 to get all the hardware I need to play it on normal settings. I would be happy to see what settings you are playing the game on, just so we can compare, I would also be willing to post my ini file for you. Because I doubt you are getting that much better perf. than I on the game having the same cpu unless you shelled out $340 for the 9700.
I don't see how it's fair that you ridicule my opion either. My opinion is formed from playing UT for 3 years and then starting to play 2K3 full time (which I am contemplating staying with UT, mainly because my aim is way off now because of the environmental differences in speed and weapon play between versions). I would be happy to scrim you group if you would like. I don't think we have met up in UT, so I would also like to know your handle and what group you are part of since you seem to think you are pretty l33t.
I'm probably just rambling at this point, oh well, upward and onward.
The way you moving 2k3 is like UT, and I find myself trying to double jumps and dodge jumps while playing UT now, ahaha, pretty hilarious actually. But what they did to the weapons is just insulting. It now takes twice as long to kill someone now. I used to be able to blow away someone with a direct shock combo, now it takes three to do that kind of damage, plus it wastes 5 shock instead of 4, how retarded. They've given the game a total newbie approach where anyfool with a rocket launcher can run around spamming and get a decent amount of point without having to use any skill. GG Spam. Seems a bit Quakish to me ;). Anyways. I'm sure I will have more to say, but work calls.
Also, Adept, you may want to think about upgrading the ole cpu also if you plan on playing some hardcore UT2k3.
Tootall the only time I have noticed a drop in FPS is during major fights when there are about 10 or 15 in one big bunch. I got an Athlon XP 1800 with 256 Meg of DDR RAM and a GeForce 3 Ti 500 and the only time I have noticed it taking a crap is when there is alot of stuff going on. I think that may get better with a patch of the game or the video drivers. Anyways look how much they patched UT...... a bunch.
How do I sound as if I am coming off like I think I am l33t? Trust me, I aint. I was out of FPS for a little while. I aint part of no clan. What handle you see here is what handle you see anywhere I am. I use Tazdrummer in every forum I am in, in every multiplayer game I play, saves confusion. All I am in it for in these games is to have fun. If you get on a UT2003 server and you hand me my butt 35 differant ways before I get a lucky kill in on you, so be it. I will probably learn a thing or two about my game from it and next time you may only get 10 instead of 35.
After seeing all these "l33t" UT hardcores dog this game up one side and down the other just because their butts werent kissed and their little tantrums went unanswered it got old. Whenever I see someone dog a game whether it be Duke Nukem Forever, TFC, CS, UT, Q3, or UT2003 I just literally want to tell them "Shut up. If you cant program a game any better....then shut up"
Did you think of troubleshooting your system to see if something can be updated before you totally diss the game? When I first loaded UT 2003, it booted me right out to the desktop after 30 seconds of being into the game. I didnt go getting torqued and crying about this game being a piece of crap. ALL GAMES COME OUT WITH BUGS. Show me one game that came out recently totally bug free. I dont think you can. I dont think anyone can. With all the differant types of systems, on top of the differant components (video cards, sound cards, NICs, ect) no developer will ever be able to come out with a piece of software that works in ALL systems 100% of the time the first try.... especially any new game.
Adept, it should run on the dual PIII. I was running the beta of it on a Duron 900 with 384 meg of PC100 SDRAM.
Go for an Athlon XP man. And wait for the video card until Spring time. The "GeForce 5(?)" should be out possibly around Christmas and that will cause the $225 to $250 GeForce Ti4600 to go down lower?Quote:

I agree, I can't code any better, hehe, that would be a pretty boring job, I'll stick to fulfilling every last wish of the end users I support as a Network Admin. I have to admit that I am not totally against UT2K3, I just wish they had given thought to the actual community of hardcore UT gamers that have been playing it for 2 or 3 years in a competitive nature and not just the newbs that post on the INA forum, some of the threads over there are unbelievable. Granted I am just getting more involved with the community the less I play (6 month old at home to take care of), and it seems that as much as everyone complains about it, they can't stop playing it. So eventually all of the UT players will convert and yes, UT has been patched to hell and back, not sure why they stopped though. As soon as they start patching it, things will hopefully get better. I just wish for the days back in college when I could play till 3 am and all weekend. Those were the days, hehe. It just seems like you were pretty upset for just "playing the game for fun".
I've toubleshot my computer to kingdom come, and it doesn't matter, i'm more than likely going to do a complete os reinstall this weekend or next depending on how much College Football I watch :). I have yet to have the problem you were first experiencing, but the lag in frames just upsets me, I've spent all this money on making my computer pretty nice and then the one game I truly give a crap about doesn't run worth a darn on it, UGGGGGGH, talk about frustrating. I just upgraded my nforce 420d chipset board to the kt400 gigabyte board and now my audio is completely **** (<---sorry for the swear, but man, going from all the problems of an sb live card on a via board to the dobly digital sound of an nforce board to the crap you get onboard with the via boards, geeze), so i had to put my sb live back in, hopefully i don't have the same driver issues as i had back with UT.
Anyways, that's way off topic, LONG LIVE UT/UT2K3, DIE QUAKE!!!!! :)
Nope, its the truth ;)Quote:

I wish I could afford the hardware you both recommended, Taz and TT, but there's no chance of that happening anytime soon.
As for waiting for the GF4 pricing to drop - that sounds like an excellent idea.
I've recently received a dual CPU ECS motherboard from Garak (thanks bro! ;) ) and currently have a Celeron 700 (thanks to Garak again) to set in it. I'm aiming for the PIII twins in the near future, if I can unload an older laptop and some extra hardware I've got lying around my office.
An Athlon XP would be my dream machine, but that's an expensive one.
I guess I'll have to stick it out with Q3 and UT for now, but that's not so bas, as...
Q3 Rules All!!!
:p
What kind of laptop you have? I may be interested, and btw, Q3 sucks, UT uber alles :)
I'll PM you the details, brainwashed UT zombie. :pQuote:

You can get an Iwill motherboard KA-266R (I got one and it is rock solid) for $50. And you can get an Athlon XP 1800 for about $60. DDR RAM PC2100 $70 I think for 256 Meg. Under $200 and you are sporting a kick booty system. Unless you have an AT case.
AT case, omg, that's "back in the day, when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore, but somedays I sit and wish i was a kid again", uhh, ya, AT Cases own, well, own Quake, hehe
Anyone else notice when you downloaded the the new point release (1.32) the word final in the description? Does this mean the end for Q3 is near

It said the same thing for 1.31, thanks for the heads up on the new release, I thought 1.31 was the final. I guess final means for that release number, no 1.32a or 1.32g. Next will probably be 1.33.Quote:
