My department just hired a new tech. So far he :
Installed a network card on a computer that was still running.
Grabbed a video card without grounding himself first.
Keeps going to monitor websites to look for video drivers.
Tried to install windows using the "getting started with Win98" cd.
Installed windows without formatting the hd first.

Although that installing the nic with the computer on is a little worrisome.
Demonstrate earth leakage to him. Is always fun, especcially with the earth wire disconnected :D

6. Is always on his phone to his friends and others regarding his "job on the side" (trying to do up and sell cars).
He's only a trainee I guess, and it's our job to bust him into shape, but god, I've seen 12 year old's with better work ethics.

I've found that here - the old guy must go.
He's a die-hard Novell guy - which is fine and dandy, but we moved from Novell 6 years ago, to NT. We're now well into W2K and he's still the Novell guy. He has a hard time grasping any new concepts - like user rights and Active Directory.
Being in this industry, you need to be open to change and at least try to keep up. About 25% of my day is going back and re-doing whatever he has messed up or gotten into and gotten confused and/or lost.
According to CNN his remains have been positively identified. I also heard on the news last night that he had been replaced and they will continue touring.Quote:

Now, I've had to write him step by step instructions on how to use fdisk. All the options confused him.
1.) i know how to step on all 3 rails of the subway tracks..
2.) i have good enough aim so i can pee on an electrified fence.

What about using a video camera to show what that lazy fellow is doing and show it to the boss??? Or would that be an invasion of privacy??
Companies can't continue to employ idiots all the time or even some of the time. The costs are becoming too much. So management had better get their a$$es in gear and get rid of that perion asap.
You would think that with all the tech people out there who are looking for jobs that management wouldn't have to put up with this.
Ultimately its not a fault of the guy's as much as its a fault of management's to deal with this sort of cr@ap!
told us his grandma died and he had to fly out fot the funeral which was on monday (this past monday). Well out onsite guy just happened to go home for lunch since he was already out by his house and logged onto battle net. low and behold, guess whos logged into useast and sitting in the trading post chat room. we thought it may just be a bot, but realized he isn't smart enough to figure out how to use one. our onsite gou took some screen shots with the date and time on them and showed them to our boss. I've never actually seen him shake with anger before.
the next day at lunch we started talking about diablo II and I started talking about bots. I asked him if he used one and of course his anser was "no, I can never get any to work right on my system. I think it just dosn't work right under WinME"
today, I come in and find out that he quit at the end of the day yesterday. woohoo!

usually we go through 2 or 3 losers till we find someone good, then they leave after about a year to a job that pays better. So seeing how this was the 3rd guy who didn't make it past 3 months, the next should be a good one and stick around for a while.
