Goto File> Import Export...
there is no file menu in msn explorer...
im not talking about internet explorer...
the bookmarks are just saved URL's placed in a folder and if you created a new link there manually, it would auto show up in IE. Soo goto the directory where they create the favorites and save them to a floppy.
its usually like C:/WINNT / Program Files / Internet Explorer / Favorites
or in win2k / xp its in the c:document and setting and all that under the correct user.
dont know what it is on MSN tho
in windows NT/2K/XP
do this..
> right click on Start Button
> Explore all users
> Select the username you want to get the favorites from (eg. administrator)
> go into the Favorites folder under the username
> copy all the bookmarks to where ever you want..
for the path here are the examples:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Favorites
or
C:\winnt\profiles\Administrator\Favorites
ok, here's the deal, MSN does not use IEs Favorites, MSN's favorites are located here:<pre>C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data\MSN6\UserData\{771BFA30-D788-01C2-0300-0000FC43FAB6}\Favorites.xml</pre>after doing a little research, I found a visual basic script that converts the xml file into bookmark.html, which can be imported into IE, netscape and most other browsers
here are the instructions for use in the readme file:and here's a link to the files:Quote:
MSN Favorites Export Toolkit<hr>Oddly enough, the import feature of IE cannot handle the favorites.xml file that contains your MSN Explorer favorites. Someone recently asked for a solution, so I have prepared a (quick and dirty) toolkit that does the job. It transforms a MSN favorites file (favorites.xml) into a Netscape favorites file (bookmark.htm) that is (ironically) suitable for import into IE.
Just put favorites.xml, msnfav.vbs and msnfav.xsl in the same folder and run msnfav.vbs. The script will output a bookmark.htm file that you'll be able to import into IE. Beware: the favorites.xml file must not be edited before applying the XSL transform.

And I had to install MSN to figure this out:rolleyes: now it's time to uninstall it:D
make sure you do all the above but most files will remain hidden
and the search feature won't even work under the greatest of circumstances so:
1)right click start menu, Explore
2)goto tools, folder options
3)click View
4)under hidden files and folders, click do not show hidden files and folders
5)also make sure the hide protected operating system files is unchecked
6) do the above
sounds scary when it's all said and done there's nothing to it, you can always go back and recheck or uncheck the selected options to have it the way you once had it. Oh ya try http://spreadfirefox.com/community/?...139962&t=1
to get a browser that simply will rock you.
if you thought the last guy was crazy reviving this thread after a 2 year lull, how nuts am I, 3 years later?Quote:

I hit Enter and nothing happens, other than a new, fresh line of "C:\Documents and Settings\Edward>".
I did all that, then tried again; same result. Anyone still out there? I'm tempted to copy and past each of the 100 or so Favorites into Firefox!Quote:

It sounds like that the vbs script is not in the folder that you are trying to start it from. Where did you save the script?
I originally saved them to My Downloads, then copied them to C:\Documents and Settings\Edward 'cause it looked like that was where the Command Prompt was "looking".
If you are getting NO error messages, the script has run....the new fresh line as you put it, is displayed when the script has completed.
The quickest way to get your MSN Favorites, is to import them into Windows Live Favorites. Once you have them there, you can import them into IE using import/synchronize and from there you can import them into Firefox
Hi all,
I'm trying to help my 81 year old aunt. She has all her favorites currently on dial-up msn.com favorites.
How can I get them from MSN favorites to IE favorites? She is switching to Comcast internet in the very near future.
Thanks
ojann
There isn't a simple way to do it. Print them out and and re-enter them for her
Quick tip, read my post before yoursQuote:

slgrieb,
"There isn't a simple way to do it. Print them out and and re-enter them for her."
The link I provided is the simplest way to do it
Adamsappleone, I guess you and I may disagree on what constitutes "simple". Do you suppose it might be possible (perhaps even likely) that ojann's grandmother doesn't have Windows Live? Maybe Grandmother isn't running Vista. Gosh, what are the odds do you suppose? Even if her machine has Vista installed, she's on a dialup connection, which makes downloading Windows Live an ordeal rather than a quick fix. Anyway, I'm willing to bet that in this case, your "simple" solution for ojann and his Grandmother isn't workable.
Hello slgrieb,
I suppose, you don't need Windows Vista, my method works for all versions of Windows and she is on dial-up and she is switching to Comcast, WL file is only 2.28mb's, so really, how long could that take, besides it could always be copied to disc on a faster machine.
My solution is workable. Have you tried it? Probably not if you don't have MSN.
This solution that I originally posted in PCPitstop Forums won me Tips and Tricks of the month back in March 08, so you can disagree all you want, I know it works and haven't received any feedback that it doesn't.
So why you gotta be all negative and stuff?
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pos...on-the-go.aspx Right side of the screen, top of the list under what you need. Windows Vista computer. Dial up download speed, about 36Kb. Still only works with Vista.
I'm not sure we're on the same page here.
That link doesn't seem to have anything to do with importing MSN favorites into IE or Firefox. It shows TV, Video and Movies and maybe those features only work with Vista, but you don't have to have Vista to get Windows Live or Windows Live Toolbar or Windows Live Messenger. Like I said "My solution is workable. Have you tried it? Probably not if you don't have MSN."
Adamsappleone, did you find a solution to this?
Hi NooNoo,
Ugh, I am at a loss here, what solution was I looking for?
I was replying to the OP who wanted to know how to Import MSN Favorites in to Firefox. I was not not looking for any solution.
Regards,
Don
uhhh my bad, was catching up on a month's absence. Thanks for replying though.
I know this thread is old, but there seems to be a severe lack of information on how to accomplish this task anymore.
All the links provided are too old. What is the method everyone is alluding to?
I heard Microsoft Live can import from MSN... but do you have to install MSN Explorer First, and THEN install Microsoft Live Mail? And then somehow the favorites are imported?
Please help!
Well, I'm still of the opinion that most people can print their favorites from MSN and enter them into their current browser of choice manually faster than doing all the steps to import them. Besides, this is a perfect opportunity to dump sites you actually never visit.
Whether you print a list, or use the procedure outlined by CCT, it is all much easier to have the MSN software installed on the target machine before you start. The current version is available here.
