Which was the best?
Mallrats for the Cleetus, love that movie!!!
I am proud to say it was filmed in MN! The dirt mall they go to is like 15-20 in from my house (the inside) the out side shot was the only part of the movie filmed in New Jersey.
Have you visited the 3 nipple psychic?
Army of darkness was spawned off of evil dead, and evil dead II if I recall correctly. Evil Dead II had to be hands down the funniest horror film I have ever seen. I swear, when his possessed hand was kicking his a$$, and he had to cut it off; then it ran around the house kicking his a$$---I almost passed out I was laughing so hard. Then when it flicked him off...:D
But the best all time sequel-spawning flick was Back to the Future. Genius concept, fairly adequate continuity (or at least it looked good for movies) and brilliant chemistry between Michael J. Fox, Crispin Glover, Christopher Lloyd, and Lea Thompson. My hat is off to them and the director, Robert Zemeckis as well. I still watch them all of the time.
The best movies in my opinion have no sequels... A sequel to a good movie is an excuse to generate more revenue.. Look at the jurrasic park sequels for a good example. Jurrassic park2 was Micheal Crichton's first and only sequel he wrote to a novel, and jurassic park 3 had nothing to do with him. His "Stand alone" movies have all done well.
Congo, Rising Sun and the great train robery are among his works.
Other "Good" movies like ShawShank Redemption and Green Mile have no sequels.
the only "trilogy" movies that i've ever seen work are movies that from square one are designed to be multi movie. Starwars (episodes 4-6) and LOTR are good examples.
I don't know man, the voice of William Shatner screaming KAAAAAAAHN made for a pretty damn good sequel.
..and I don't know if it counts but Star Trek First Contact (second Star Trek movie with the new cast but 8th in the series) was pretty good too.
What about the Godfathers????(ok, not so much 3, but the first 2 at least)
Terminator 2, that was even better than the first. I hope T3 is good, but it won't be the same without Linda Hamilton..
i agree with amyb, T2 is the best sequel to a movie that wasn't supposed to have a sequel, at least the best one i can think of right now. mallrats is a great movie, but i don't know if i'd call that a sequel. the View Askew movies seem to tie in together, not really continue.
so therefore IMHO back to the future is the best series of sequels/prequels of all time
man this is a hard one....I love all these movies :(
but the two I was conflicting was
Back 2 the future and Evil Dead
well of course I selected Evil Dead but it was very close :)

Out of what is listed in the poll, a tie between Amry of darkness and Mallrats.
Clerks is hilarious. let's not forget: Bond..James Bond flicks..kinda like sequels..
Tough choice when you have to stick away from the big franchises (SW, ST, MAtrix, LOTR, etc.)
Wow what a tuff choice...
after debating for a while i decided on army of darkness, great flick but mallrats was a definate close second. back to the future was great but the sequels were weak...kevin smith rocks but bruce campbell was pure genius in army...thats right i said the words!!
but how could i disregard lines like :
"It's a schooner!" "You dumb ba$tard its a sailboat!"
damn i want to vote again......
I'll nominate Highlander 2 for the WORST sequel. :D
I'll second that!!!Quote:

On that list, Army of Darkness without a doubt. It & Evil Dead 2 both surpassed the original in every way.
I don't see how Mallrats can be considered "sequel" per se...I mean, they both share some characters (Jay & Silent Bob), and make references to certain events - the chick having the embolism in a pool...Randall & Brodie both have/had a cousin Walter who did weird stuff to themselves sexually), but they didn't really continue a main story or anything.
Any kevin smith movie

Actually they do....somwhat, kevin smiths movies are called the Jersey Trilogy, even though there are 5 of them.
They dont continue a story per se', but they all show events that happen in around a 3 day period in the jersey area, kevin smith himself even calls them sequels from time to time
I can't believe nobody has mentioned Aliens. Admittedly Alien was the better film but Aliens must be the best shoot'm up sci-fi flick ever.
T2 wins hands down.
Don't forget Die Harder and Die Hard with a Vengance. Those were pretty good sequels.
Most movies that have sequels are a rsult of the original being a hit. If the 1st one didnt do squat, they "usually" do not make a 2nd one. You would think they would have learned after Highlander 2 to just plain stop please dear god stop!!
Some movies like the Star Wars trillogy were orignally 1 whole story, but had to be split into 3 movies because of size. Lucas now has enough money he can put out any movie he wants without any worries about a studio backing him up. Not listening to George's plan to produce a movie is like saying you don't want to hear Steven Spielberg's opinion on directing.
Together those 2 equal totally awesome movies.
I have to agree with the T2 crowd, brilliant.
However, the Guy Ritchie movie Snatch is much better than Lock Stock, but can it be called a sequel? I think so, and that for me was the best ever because I have watched it 10+ times and still find new things to laugh out loud at!!
At the other end of the scale it has to be Police Academy. s h i * e!
I think The Goonies should have had a sequel.
it was supposed to
You forgot:
Star Trek - The Movie (with Shatner, Nimoy, and Kelly) Forget TNG- the series just isn't as good.
Godfather - All of them
Superman - All of them
Batman (the first two - the third was the 'nippled' batman and had nothing but explosions and special effects)
and Rocky
Also:
Deep Throat 2 & 3 (much better than the original)
:D
I liked both the Ghostbusters and Back to the Future. They were both great movies, and pretty hilarious. Back to the Future most likely was the best of those choices. I have all 3 movies, but my personal fave is the 2nd one:cool:
