So how does all of this numbering stuff work. I noticed I went to just a member after like 25 or 30 would be cool to see how it many posts to in each level. Also CONGRATS are in order. I hope I get to see 1k before I die. :D
well, there used to be a really "neato" ranking system, junior tech, senior tech, tech god, supreme tech titan, etc etc, but it has since been removed
yup. I got my toga and my chair on Olympus when I hit the 1K mark. I even have my free beer pass yet.

I have a question. Did you actually have to know anything about computers to get those titles...or was it based solely on the number of posts????:confused:

it was exclusively on numbers of posts, therefore members that posted almost always in the Tech Lounge came under fire from those who didn't.... end result? If you can't play nice in the sandbox, the sandbox gets taken away.... :sad:Quote:

We used to have 'tech stars' seperate from any 'post counting regimes' ... allocated by 'his-hard-to-please-ness' Sowulu - but they got zapped when we changed software ... (I think I'd convinced him I warranted 4 out of 5, but that was then - I must be good for 6 or 7 now :D)Quote:

They might have been at one point ... but Sowulu could definately change 'em & did !! If you gave 'stuoooopid' answers he demoted you ! There was also a system like 'rate this thread' too ... where the questioner could 'rate' the answer & your tech stars went up or down based on that ...Quote:

In all seriousness though I lament the demise of tech stars, as its all well & good for us confirmed 'addicts', we 'know' who might come up with something worth trying & who is taking the pee or just posting 'randomly'... but newbies just see a big fat post count & assume some prior knowledge or expertise ... there's lots of members here with 'moderate' post counts who know their stuff ... they actually do some real work that's all & don't post everyday like some of us have the luxury (or misfortune!) ... ;)
Orangeman has a good point since this is a tech site ... knowing who actually knows what the hell they are talking about & knowing who just likes to post a lot are two different un-connected things ...
