What do all the wonderful people at windrivers use for trouble ticket/work order tracking software? Right now my office is using just plain old access database that I don't personally like very much. On the software you list can I get what you feel are the good and bad points?

We currently use an inhouse written system.
Soon transferring it over to Siebel from what I understand....I figure that outta be REAL interesting.....:rolleyes:
Maximo is an Enterprise Asset Management program that will do all of that and then some a little pricy I believe, try here. They can do the implementation and the training.
Do you have an ASP.NET programmer in house or at your disposal? I've been fooling around myself with the starter kits and ASP.NET and sql look like a great platform to build your own ticket tracking software. Below is a link for the starter kits. They don't have a ticket tracking one but you can see from the examples how easy it would be (for a coder or a geek who knows how to reverse engineer something) to build one IMO.

My company uses a tool called Quintus and it's flakey at times but can do a good deal.
We are moving to call tracking software by made by the makers of Sales Logic in the future.
Heard of several people using an access database of their own as well. Friend on mine wrote an app to do it for his helpdesk.

Most home grown trouble ticket solutions are pretty comparable to shrink wrapped solutions, imho. You get a few extra bells and whistles if you buy something off the shelf but for the most part you're just establishing a problem, attaching some details, and tracking actions.
The biggest problem I've seen with home growns is that usually whoever wrote it gets another job eventually and no one knows how to maintain the database anymore.
We do not have an ASP.NET programmer.

We have an inhouse program the one of the techs wrote. It's 100 times better than the old SQL database. SQL blows :mad:
We use Track IT which has a lotta nice features and is modular so you can add other stuff too, but recently I've been looking at Track Free which is a free Trackit clone.

I use it to track and bill all of the service work. It does a good job.
We use Liberum Help Desk which is FREE/Open sourced. it is HTML/asp based. You can download it here: http://www.liberum.org/index.html
TrackFree is free only for up to 50 workstations. We use TrackIt and it's a nice tool...Quote:

we use PeopleSoft's Vantive CRM software. It has its good points and its bad.
We use trackit to maintain an inventory of over 3000 machines as well as the helpdesk and workorders. Love it, but it is pricy...

A friend of mine wrote me a chunk of software i call CYA... i use it to track what i do for who it doesnt have a index key but it time stamps the date and time you make an entry and its pretty much like that librium internet page but in a .net program... i like it. its still in the works and has a few qwarks but hey what software doesnt...
We use Track-It 6.0 Enterprise edition with the Web addon.
Very nice. Been using track-it since version 4.0 over 3 years ago.

Because we use Trackit on less than 10 out of a network of 150 or so PCs and Laptops. (the IS/IT dept are the only ones that use it.) But the audit would need to run on the 150 nodes.
Besides that the TrackFree seems to leave alot to be desired. :rolleyes:
