hi every one
having a slight problem conecting camera to pc. all was ok when drive disc was started. no error messages or anything.then i tried to aquire pictures from camera and got the message failed to connect to camera please try again.
i am running windows xp pro.
im quite a novice on my pc apart from very basic stuff
can anyone help???????

all i did was to go on google type in praktica dcz 4 vr/ drivers then i found it in one of the links not sure which one hope this helpsQuote:

drivers for the dcz 4 vr are here - right click this and save target as
If dcz4 vr is not your model go to http://www.praktica.de/, click on service and driver at the top of the page, on the left, choose download - the drivers are in no particular order.

many thanks for both replies. unfortunately my problem has not been sorted. i have been to the praktica website and driver downloads for my model, DCZ 6 VR, are not available there. i have sent an email on their contact us facility and am awaiting a reply. i am not sure how to select mass storage. any idea why the problem suddenly started yesterday?Quote:

I am very grateful for your help. I have now sorted the problem with the help of another thread on this website for my cam model and user steveouk. Basically before connecting to the usb port, you turn the cam on using PC mode and select mass storage. It would help if these steps were recommended in the manual!! With the camera in PC mode, select mass storage and not PC Connection; that worked for me. The manufacturers website help address is: [email protected] <[email protected]>. Another possibility might be to email the website you purchased the cam from.Quote:

The Praktica Manual is hopeless: fine detail on how to attach the strap (chuffing obvious I would have thought) or insert batteries (ditto) but NO explanation of how to download pictures which is, after all, the whole point of the b-stewarding camera in the first place. I concur with your posting. As a suggestion I have found a freeware program that is very useful. I downloaded the free photo program
" Picasa" from www.google.com. It is fantastic! Once the program is up and running, simply switch on the camera in the PC setting, select mass storage, connect the usb cable to your computer then to your camera, click on "import photo's" in the program, select the storage port, ( In my case "drive F") and the program does the rest. It even has an "enhance" feature that automatcially compensates and corrects any exposuer problems. Best of luck!
Thanks. I may try that although in fact I have no problem with Adobe Photoshop Elements which is a pretty good package for the relatively inexperienced digital twiddler such as myself. It too has the sorts of facilities that your Picasa does (and more) of which I guess I have mastered about 20%!!Quote:

gives instructions as to how to connect the camera to the PC
1) computer must be running
2) only install driver for Win 98 (except DC 21 required for all O/S)
3) switch on camera
4) only switch camera to PC symbol for DC 21, DCZ 1.3, DCZ 2.1 and DCZ 3.3
5) NOW connect USB cable to camera (NOT BEFORE THIS STEP)
6) the camera will be automatically recognised by the system as removable storage (mass storage device?)
7) check under "My computer" (using explorer) for a new drive (often E: or F:)
8) click on this drive and there will be two folders, the second contains your photos
9) you can copy the files into another folder on your computer and use your normal photo editing program
10) to remove the camera (Win 2000, ME and XP), click on the icon near the clock (bottom RH corner)
11) after removal of the USB device the drive letter will disappear
I hope this helps. I've just bought a DCZ 6VR from e-bay too, so if someone could let me know how the camera performs I'd be grateful. Any one know if there is a limit to the size the SD card can be. I found a site which said up to 128MB. Anyone tried bigger capacity?

However, I still can't persuade it to revert to webcam status since I downloaded my photos. I have emailed through the Praktica website but when I attempt to reply to their emails to me, they get kicked back undeliverable.
I use a 128mB card which it accepts quite happily; didn't dare try anything larger.
The camera is fine for fun / everyday but I wouldn't use it for "precious" shots. It's not brilliant for night time / flash shots either.

I recently bought the 6VR camera off E-bay. I manage to use it fine and download the pics. Is anyone else having problems with using the flash? I find that this camera is hopeless for taking pictures inside and no matter how light it is inside the pictures don't come out right. Use the flash and everything apart from what I am trying to focus on is fine, but the thing in focus (like a person) is completely white and too bright. Use it without the flash on a bright day but inside and the pictures are really dark and look kinda red! Have fiddled with the settings but nothing seems to make a difference.Quote:

Yes. Flash produces a terrible image - red as you say. Pic fine in daylight. I hope someone has a solution and that it is not only suitable for outdoor use.Quote:
