what is my video driver
i'm trying to find my video driver but i don't know how. i want to update it. and about a week ago for some reason when i put 1024x728 on screen resolution it made little thin lines which are transparent. when i put it on 800x600 it's perfectly fine. anyone know why this is happening??
-
Who is your video card's manufacturer. What model? More info please.
-
thats what i'm trying to find out
-
Welcome to WD syco_killah .
Can you tell us the brand ( like -DELL -GATEWAY or) PC and model name or number .
and what OS it is (like XP or ME or )
Do you know how to get to DeviceManager in Control Panel ?
-
It would be interesting to know what brand / model your monitor is also.
-
okay, my os is windows xp, my monitor is packard bell(3 years old) yes i have been on device manager but i don't know which one is my video driver. urmm..does that answer all your questions  oh and i got my pc at an auction, the pc was custom made.
-
Ok , when you go to DeviceManager look for
Display Adapters and click the little + sign and you should see what your card is and tell us and we can then tell you about what newer driver you need .
-
heres a screen shot, i can't find what you said to look for

Dowload Everest http://www.lavalys.com/index.php?pag...ew=1&subpage=5 and run. Run the Physcial Devices report and post the results.

It appears you have a 'SiS 315 Intergrated Video Adapter' ,
give us a little bit and will get to you .
-
This is the latest drivers from SiS site ;

hope it helps . :)
-
thanx for the help and the warm welcome :thumbs2:
-
look what it says when i try to install it 'the setup program cannot find a suitable driver'. why is this happening???
-
You need to unzip the file you downloaded to a folder and point the installer to that location.
-
it automaticly searches for the driver so i cannot point the installer to it. what should i do????
-
After you tell windows to search for a driver, there is an option to "Specify a location". After you check that box a dialog will appear for you to browse to the appropriate folder.
-
and how do i tell widows to search for a driver?? (sorry for being such a pest)
-
In device manager, right click on the video adapter with the yellow ! and select properties. Go to the driver tab and select update driver. Follow the instructions.
-
when i go on device manager it doesn't show the video driver. is there any other way to get it?
-
It was on the screen shot you posted earlier. I can't tell you exactly what its said, because my company's firewall is now blocking your site.
-
that was when i used a program to report all my drivers. are you talking about the first picture or the second one?
-
It was the first picture. Today I can see it again. The device you want to update appears under Other Devices as Video Controller (VGA Compatible). Right click on that, select Properties, then select the Driver tab, then select Update Driver. Select search for a driver, then check the box to "Specify a location". After you check that box a dialog will appear for you to browse to the folder where you unzipped the driver.
-
thanx :thumbs2: i just found out now that it was video controller :)
-
oh no!!!!! it has been uninstalled from my pc  do i need the cd to reinstall it?
-
No, you need the driver you downloaded in Post 12. If the Video Controller no longer appears under Other Devices, just click the "Scan for hardware changes" button and it should detect it again.
-
i tried to install the driver. but when i go on the folder which has the update on it, look what happens
