As far as I can tell, the only team that's going to lose out here is the B's, and that's mostly cause they're the only team that actually turns a profit.
I don't really follow hockey too much, but I listen to a lot of sports radio. The way I see it, the owner's should all just agree to pay less money. If the players don't like it they can find other jobs. If the league fails because of it, it would suck big time, but nobody owes anybody anything in that business except the fans who pay all of their bills.
I'd say watch basketball but that sport royally sucks donkey nuts.
I never side with the athletes.
I side with the owners. The union is going to wipe out the NHL.
I side with the owners, the NHLPA really will end up shooting themselves in the foot in this instance. I'll miss the NHL games though
However, I shall be drunkenly watching hockey at Christmas in the UK
Don't get me started. :mad:Quote:

I think the owners are a bunch of rich, money grubbing you-know-whats, but that's business for you, and it can bring good things into the world even so. But as for the players...
Who can have sympathy for someone who
-Gets to play hockey for a living
-Makes more money in one year than you will in your entire lifetime
-Thinks he has it hard?
The union's almost destroyed baseball more than once.
In the words of George Carlin:
"Hocky's not a sport, it's three activities rolled in one. You've got Ice Skating, playing with a puck, and beatin' the sh!t out of someone."
Almost? I think it has.Quote:

I got a $5.00 Tim Horton's gift certificate the other day from a sales rep who was very appreciative of all the work I did for him. OOOOOO.....$5! I'm creeping ever closer to that 1.3 MILLIION dollar mark! Everybody wants to be me huh?
Feel pity for a player who whines so much to get more money, to play for fans that can't afford to go to the games, because he whined for more money (the owners have to get the money from somewhere...gates is as good as anywhere else)? Nope...I don't think so.
Can them all, and start the NHL over again. Lay down the rules ahead of time (salary caps) and don't let it get to this state again. (I mean really now...some players make over 8 MILLION a year. PER YEAR!!!!) :uke:
Just in Montreal. :thumbs:Quote:

If they don't want to pay so much money to them they shouldn't be offering them ridiculous contracts. I have no sympathy for the owners or the players.
Aye, they make too much money to bitch. On the other hand, if the owners are keeping too much profit in comparison then that's wrong too. I'd love to see the owners offer every dollar in concessions to the players by way of a reduction in ticket prices. That would sure make the players look evil huh?
The problem seems to be that players get a big fat contract and then their production drops off sharply. In an ideal world all money earned would be directly tied to whether your team wins or not, but that will never happen.
The players are 100% against a salary cap, that's what this thing is all about. I would suggest that they keep the same system as far as not having a cap, but make it like the NFL where a team can cut a player at any time and not be responsible for the remainder of their contract.
Let them go thru waivers and if another team wants to pay the contract then they can claim the player, but if they make it all the way thru waivers they become a free agent with no contract.
That way there is no salary cap, but if a team needs to reduce the payroll they have a way to do it. Everybody wins, hockey season starts on time.
American football truly is a perfect sport. :DQuote:
