LG HL-DT-ST DvD-Rom GDR8162B Driver
Thanks, Matt.
OK, give us some more details about your pc, and tell us why you think you need a driver?
Same problem here.
I have a 8 month old computer.
Pentium 4 CPU 2GHz
512 RAM
MS WinXP (Home Edition)
version 2002
Service Pack 2
I have 2 DVD/CD stations:
I Have 1 DVD/CD player (LG HL-DT-ST DvD-Rom GDR8162B) !does't work anymore!
and 1 DVD/CD player+writer (_NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A)
also another diskname for which I don't have a clue why it is there.
(AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device)
The problem I have is that one day my DVD/CD player
didn't work anymore.
Can sombody help?

Given all your symptoms, I'd start troubleshooting this one, by reading the section headed 'class filter drivers' on my sticky in this forum & follow the advice given in the M$ KB that is quoted.
Thank you for the quick reply.
I remember installing a programme called alcohol 120. But I thought I got rid of this. It isn't showing anymore in Program Files...
I will go and read what I have to do on "class filter drivers"
cheers
Well, very interesting.
I see there is a programme calles Alcohol 120% in the Start-menu.
But when I wan't to remove this with "uninstall", it doesn't work. I
guess it got deleted by a anti-virus programme but I have still some
residu left on my machine.
And if I just deleted this virtual DVD ...?
Did you try deleting the registry keys as described ? That normally fixes matters..
It sounds like somehow your copy of alcohol 120 has gotten managled somehow, so probably the simplest method is reinstalling & then uninstalling to get rid of whatever 'bits' have gotten left behind for whatever reason.
What a bloody stupid task to get rid of Alcohol 120%. But I got it from my system and this virtual drive is gone too. But if that wasn't enough, I cant find a driver for LG HL-DT-ST DvD-Rom GDR8162B.
I deleted the dvd/cd player and rebooted, but it still didn't work. So I am trying to find the driver, but without any luck.
:-(
Did you also delete the upper & lower filter keys as described in the kb ?Quote:

I have deleted the upper filter. There was no lower filter in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318
This is what is left in this registry folder:
- (standard)
- Class
- EnumPropPages32
- Icon
- Installer32
- NoInstallClass
- SilentInstall
- TroubleShooter-0
There are 4 subfolders:
- 0001 (standard)
- 0002 (standard)
- Properties (standard)
- 0000 (DriverDate, DriverDateData, DriverDesc, DriverVersion, EnumPropPages32, InfPath, InfSection, MatchingDeviceId, ProviderName)
So we've hopefully eliminated alcohol 120 as a possible issue, but we never actually tested the unit - when you say 'doesn't work anymore' - I need that spelling out ... does it show in device manager ? will it read say cd's but dvd's ? etc (as a 'fixer' I do much of this stuff on 'auto-pilot' & sometimes forget to ask at the right times! :) )Quote:

The drivers are:
cdrom.sys
imapi.sys
redbook.sys
storprop.dll
So it shows as a drive letter in my computer & seems ok in device manager, but fails to recognise any disk whatsoever when in windows ?
So back to my sticky again, lets try the 'cd boot test' now - the idea of this being to test your unit outside windoze, so that we can eliminate 'software madness' as much as possible, as there's lots of things can go wrong in windows - I/we need to know if you can either boot from a system cd (if you've got one handy) or be able to read a data cd in dos (the sticky details all of this :)).
A cd\dvd lens cleaning kit is often worth a shot at this point too ..
hmmm, I put in winXP installation disk.
He tries to boot from cd. But after a while he jumps on cpu and starts loading windows from pc.
Does this mean I can buy myself a new DVD-player ...?
It looks that way, cd boot test is pretty reliable ... least it was the player & not the writer ;)
thanks for the info !!!
You are welcome ! :) mind it didn't do any good ! :eek2:
Ok, this is what this stupid LG stuff does to me :flame: At any rate, I took the drive from a computer, and it was working, stuck it in my brand new dual cpu server, and the new puter cant see the drive. Its popping in my device manager, but says it has an incorrect driver. So, therefore, the drive is junk to me. I can find an 8161 and an 8163 on the LG site, but no 8162. What a connondrum!! Pls Help
Hi there!
I have the same problem with my nd-1100a albeit that it'll read CD's but not DVD's anymore. It used to, then didn't, so I downloaded version 1.93 of the firmware but still no good
In winDVD for example, I get the error message "No valid drive/disc found".
Can anyone help please, or is it worth buying a new DVD anyway?

Best test is transplanting the device into a known working setup (as there is much that can go wrong software wise in making a DVD) - if it 'fails to behave' there then yup a new one is looking like the only way out - however I/we don't have much info on what may or mayn't have happened, so this might just be some software error, but for anything 'dual laser' that suddenly stops working with no other apparent causes such as software updates etc, the 'heads out of alignment' explanation, is very often true & usually means spending some (more) money - at least DVD writers have gotten cheap lately ! :)
Thanks confus-ed for the prompt reply and welcome to the forum.
Your answer is, as I expected, and doing more trials and tribulations, agree with you.
Looks like a new drive!

hey I'm having similar problems. same drive.Quote:

i have daemon tools installed on my computer and was wondering if this has anything to do with my problem.
in my computer its showing my primary C: hard drive and recovery D: drive
followed by Dvd drive E:
3 MMC/SD drives F-H: (although I only have one on my computer to my knowledge)
Compact Flash I/II drive I:
smart media J:
and ms/ms pro K:
idk what some of these are I do know on the front of my computer I have a USB drive that doesnt work with a drive labeled "SD/MMC/SM/MS/MS-PRO" that I believe would explain a few of the aforementioned drives, and a "CF/MICRODRIVE" which I would assume is Compact Flash.
my problems the dvd drive. please help.
im new to this forum and can't figure out how to find the "class filter drivers" section you mentioned.
lol any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
and if you need anymore help or info from me, all you need to do is ask.

Daemon Tools has been known to screw up DVD drive reading for a long time. You should try removing it using these instructions here
As for your extra drives - you have a multi card reader which is interepretted as separate drives for each of the types. The drives F-H is perfectly normal. If you post the multi reader make and model I can check what should be showing.
I am puzzled by your phraseDo you mean a usb reader or a usb stick?Quote:

this article from the MSKB goes through how to remove the filters that may be causing your problem. I know you can see the drive and that you don't have the errors shown, but you will be able to use it to examine the class filters.
I think:
Your USB drive that doesnt work labeled "SD/MMC/SM/MS/MS-PRO" accounts for drives shown as F,G,H,J and K.
J specifically is Smart Media reader component.
K specifically covers the Memory Stick and memory Stick Pro components.
Which means F, G and H cover the Secure Digital, Multimedia and Smart Media components (not necessarilly respectively).
You have Compact Flash I/II drive I.
Windows usually wants to assign drive letters to new hd and cd/dvd ahead of USB devices, so you may have a conflict.
Hi
I have a similar problem I think. I have a DVD-ROM (HL-DT -ST DVD-ROM GDR8162B) and a DVD burner (TEAC DVD+RW DV-W58E). Both dont appear when I open My Computer, when I put in a DVD nothing happens and I doesnt work to open the disc with Windows Media Player or anything.
I tried to go to the Control Panel and Add Hardware and it detects both drives get detected but with that yellow Error sign and when I try to fix it it says:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
What do you think I have to do?
Thanks for any help in advance :)
