cpu swap
I am trying to install the processor from a emachines t1220 hherboa mo lomirigem a 533i with a trigem lomita motherboard, both are socket 370's.
I ave done the swap and now my 533i will not boot, are there any know compatibility problems between these processors, Now that I have done the swap the 533i will not boot, it starts booting and than it shuts down.
-
The533i sounds like the heatsink / fan is not on all the way, or you didn't apply a fresh dab of thermal paste.
-
What are the numbers on the processors? Not all 370 motherboards can take all 370 processors.
-
The only number i can make out is at the very bottom is celeron sel 686, which number s should i be looking for?
-
S-Spec numbers.Find them--->Here
-
the numbers that I have foudn are q218a036 -1407 celeron 656
Intel m with a circle around it c with a circle around it malay 1200/256/100/1.5, if these number mean anything to anyone I would appreciate the help. I have tried using silicone base heat sindk compound and I am still ahving the same problem

Does the CPU have-->SL5PM or SL68P <-- labeled on it somewhere ?
If so it is a Socket 370 FC-PGA-2 , not FC-PGA. In this case
you would need a Lin-Lin FCPGA to FCPGA2 adaptor.
-
i do not see those numbers anywhere
-
I noticed you say"It starts booting then it shuts down.
Did you clean the heatsink and cpu of all old thermal paste
or, thermal pads then add a thin layer of new thermal paste?
Does the heatsink fit firmly down on the cpu?
Read some at the below site.

Coul dyou give me any advice on where ot get this adaptor?
-
-
It looks like the top one
-
OK you have a Tualatin, but the lomita should handle that. Possibilities -
It needs a bios upgrade
The tualatin you have is faulty
It's not a lomita (bios string at start up for the lomita is 71481.EM.0000.D.0208091418 )
here is the most complete page about the lomita There is a bios, (click on downloads top left) but the notes describe removing dos features which you may or may not want.
-
Can you tell me where to get a good tualitan
-
Frankly no. There are no new ones. 2nd hand is all there is going to be. Auction sites or local pc technician store are your best bet.
-
What would be the model of this part, I searched for celeron sl656 in ebay
and did not have any luck
-
The SL656 is at the below site.
http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SL/SL656.html
The below site is a used one.

The below site is a new Tualatin.I have bought from this seller and when he says new,you get new.It is however a 1000MHZ Tualatin.

I am going to be trying another chip. the other possiblity you mentioned is the bios, but the bios utlity that is listed on the download page is a zip file and if the computer doesn't even boot that is going to be a problem.
-
Paul, based on what you just said, I don't think you should attempt to flash the bios without some serious help!
-
any ideas on where i can get that
-
right here!
Flashing the bios is a dangerous procedure. The zip file is a collection of compressed files which need to be uncompressed and put on a floppy disk along with boot files. You then start your computer from the floppy disk and run the bios update program. During this time, any power surges, brown outs or outages will result in a completely useless computer because the bios chip will be corrupt.
So before you start, does the machine have a working floppy disk drive?
Do you have any clean floppy diskettes to use? Do you actually need to update the bios at all? According to the specs I have seen, if you get a decent processor, it will work fine.

I am going to be tryin gthe processor first

I tried installing the new cpu and am having the same problem. I can put the old cpu back in and get it to boot. I have linspire 4.5 installed on this computer, is there any way to flash the bios with this operaitng system?
-
You flash the bios in dos. You need a dos boot disk (a windows 98 boot disk will do) and the flash utility and the rom or bin file.
What speed processor and type is this. That shouldn't need to be flashed...
