Hi,
I cant get my cd and dvd drives to read anything, they are listed in device manager. I havent changed any drivers etc. I have noticed an extra device tho, that shouldnt be there. Its AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CD ROM DEVICE, any ideas whats causing this? Cheers

It looks like a virtual drive hangup problem. Some ideas in those sites.

I think "AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CD ROM DEVICE" generally gets introduced by alcohol 120 or its variants, daemon tools (though it depends what version) mostly creates random descriptors ending in " ..scsi rom device".
If you look at my sticky 'handy stuff' & read the bit about 'upper & lower filters' & try the M$ knowledge base article referenced there, it'll probably fix it - this may require you to also re-install any burning programs you have, to get them functioning, & normally I'd just take those off first (do the M$ fix) & reinstall, testing as I went.
& just to elimate co-incidence before you do any uninstalling, try booting from your windows cd, just to prove the unit hasn't decided to keel over..:)
Just to update this, i tried everything above. Had no luck whatsoever. Had to do a clean install in the end to get round this. Its working fine again now. Would love to know what caused this tho.
