I have received a reply from Gigabye regarding the memory and this is what they said:
Hi,
Due to the massive memory on the market we are unable verify all of them.
If user wants to use memory at 1066MHz he will only be able to use 1GB + 1GB. If he lowers his memory speed to 800MHZ then he can use all slots. its AM2+ CPU limitation.
Channel 0: DDRII_1, DDRII_3
Channel 1: DDRII_2, DDRII_4
To support DDR2-1066, please insert to DIMM 1 & 2 or DIMM 3 & 4.
So I guess I'm better off sticking to 800Mhz

can you tell me what the difference between this board and the one that I chose is?
GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-DS4
-
I have chosen this memory and contacted the retailer and they say it should work fine.

I have used Crucial memory in the past and have had no problems but I feel thier performance is not as good as Kigston and OCZ.
I have noe chose the following Kingston RAM and have confirmed it works with the board

Vakas, I am intrigued... what aspects of performance do you feel that Crucial fails on?
-
Well compared to others it didnt boost my system as much and crucial really don't get top reviews compared to others..
I could be wrong but thats what reviews are there for right?
-
Hey guyd have not got my new system yet as had too much on but hopefully getting it wtthin 2 weeks,
The question I wanted to ask I just checked the CPU support list for my current motherboard (Gigabyte GA-MA69GM -S2H and The list seems to have changed since the last time I checked.
The motherboard now supports an AMD 9850 and althe the new Phenom II processors which I have not seen yet.
I wanted to use the 9950 so what do you guys think should I still go for the new motherboard and get the 9950 money is not an issue here.
Also what will be the price for the new Phenom II processors and have you found any retailer for them?
-
You checked out overclockers? They are ususally the first...
I think the issue is, do you want a phenom II now?
-
Well I'm happy qith the 9950 so I don't really need the Phnom II right now.
The problem I have is deciding to kep my old motherboard or going for a new one the GA-MA790GP-DS4H
What do you think?
-
I think if you want to have a board capable of AM3, then go for one of these If not, keep your old board.
-
Would you say there are alot of advantages going for an AM3 board now?
-
From a strictly financial point of view, having an AM3 board now would mean you only have to change the processor later. From a bleeding edge point of view, you may want to see what transpires with the new boards first before committing. It wouldn't be the first time that a new board comes out that turns out to be missing something obvious!
