Ended up just grabbing a 2GB Kingston 667 kit locally. Was a little more than I'd expected, but still not too bad. :)
Next, a new PSU and 120mm exhaust fan, and hopefully then I'll leave this PC...

I recently upgraded to Socket AM2 (3600+ X2, Asus M2NPV-VM), and since I didn't have enough money for a nice 2GB kit at the time, I ended up buying a 512MB generic stick for the short term.
Now,...

A few questions.
1) The motherboard. Do you really need SLi, or all the features a $240USD motherboard provides? Surely a good 965P board would be plenty :)
2) The RAM. Won't you need to...

I do, and I'll hopefully be getting a nice 2GB kit in a couple of weeks (gotta sell my old mobo/RAM, a mate of mine wants it, so i'll get him to test the board and see if it's the problem). I'm...

Well, I bit the bullet, and decided to upgrade instead. Firstly, I put the power supply that came with my case in it, which is nothing like as powerful as the Antec, and it makes a hell of a din, but...

I've put a new PSU in, which helped a little.
Now, I finally decided to run the RAM (667 RAM) at 533 (well, 551 according to it, better than 736), to see if that helps it at all. Memtest turned...

Update...
I've bought a new case, a nice CoolerMaster Elite RC331. The stability issues aren't as bad as they were (could also be in part due to the cooler weather). Still using the old PSU,...

I bet a Turion would be a far better choice than a Celeron-M, anyways

the beeping has been fixed by moving the system to another case (fullatx one rather than microatx), however this other case is rubbish, so i'll be looking for a decent one soon.
Now just to get a...

Did, and now there's only 53 errors, rather than 128.
I wonder if putting the RAM in single channel will help?

I've swapped the DIMMS (same sticks, different slots), and although I haven't run memtest on it yet, it seems to be OK.
HSF seems to be fine, it's just the stock one, but it keeps it nice and cool

I'll do the RAM switcheroo tomorrow, then. I did purchase it as a kit, though (Corsair Value Select 2x512MB)
Well, I plan to replace its PSU eventually, but if it's urgent, I'll replace it sooner....

Right, my parents' machine has been having some rebooting problems for a while. It'll just randomly reboot for no reason, and the folks are getting sick of it (to the stage where they've mentioned...

Windows is a fine OS if you know what you're doing with it. However, 99.99% have no idea what they're doing, and that'll lead to problems.
My grandparents' PC is a fine example of a well-looked...

sweet, I'll get one, I can get them for $55AUD, which, IMO, is a bargain. I was expecting to pay $80-100 (paid $90 for my Antec)
I guess i'll stick the Antec in my server, then :)

Hmm, are these any good?
I've seen them at other stores for $50-55AUD, so they might be the go . 430W is more than 380W as well, and I've heard it's got a 29A 12v rail. :)

Well, I'll have a look at buying a better PSU (but I'm on a student budget, and I want one to be near-silent). I can always put this one in my server or in my brother's PC.
Unfortunately, my...

I wonder if it's playing a part in another problem I've been having.
I've been having stability issues, especially when booting (it's intermittent, especially on warmer days), it just shuts down...

Well, I finally got around to swapping out the PSU for a generic one, and guess what? It doesn't beep anymore!
Looks like the PSU's the culprit. :(
Thing is, it was fine with the old board and...

I haven't got a temperature alarm set in the BIOS. Besides, I've unplugged the speaker, and it still happens.
I originally thought that it was the hard drive, although since it only happens when i...

Hi all, long time no see!
I've begun to notice a faint high pitched beeping noise coming from this computer once I load it up (say, by running Folding@Home). I think it's coming from either the...

wow, thanks a lot :)
Another year older, supposedly another year wiser, etc etc. People will start expecting me to be mature soon enough, and then I'll be stuffed... :)

I guess another major reason is marketing.
I can not remember, ever, seeing an AMD ad on TV, but I see Intel ones often.
-- omg, 100th post, only took me 5 1/2 years! :)
(I've only run AMD...
