I wouldn't say the DSO exploit is causing your problems on that. If you had the coolsearch spyware, that is the likely culprit. This has been one of the hardest bugs to remove in my experience. ...

I have a GIG switch and am itching to use it on a server. I currently only have Gig between it and remote switches. It sure works nice for that, but on a high use server, I am thinking why not?
