back to dealer , then back to compaq ,then after a restore set used

a asus motherbord can have trouble with 2 sticks of 512 mb memory
just go to the site and look wath memory is tested.
a simpel answer should be replace the memory with 2 sticks (not doublesided)...

just boot with youre xp cd and choose R fot repair (follow on screen )
then you will enter the recovery console
once you are in the recoverey console just type in
chkdsk /r
then press enter...
