Thanks, and to clarify, MS Communicator (part of the Office '03 pack) sends IMs to specific email addresses. I think you're thinking of something like netsend, which can send network-wide messages.

No offense taken, those're relevant questions.
The machines each have their own connection to our LAN (which is domain based).
All machines onsite (with a few rare exceptions) use dynamic IP...

Sorry, I was out of state soon after asking this question.
Yup, both machines are using a standardized image, she doesn't have admin rights on either, and both are using the same version and...

Heya folks,
I've got a client working on our corporate LAN who uses two machines with a KVM. We use MS Communicator 1.0.559.206. The problem she's having is that when she receives an IM it only...

We actually had three of the Explodo-matic batteries here. None of them caught fire or anything fun, but they were on the bad P/N list. IBM's pretty good about getting new ones out to you.

Could it be a file association problem? The Windows startup sounds are .wavs, if it errors on other file types you might want to check that.

Thanks for the replies, folks. The specific situation is that I've got a number of these T60s that're in warranty, but the batteries only have a 1 year warranty, so those're no longer covered and...

Anyone know of a good (preferably free) software for reconditioning lithium ion batteries? Specifically for Lenovo T60 laptops, though I doubt the model would make much difference?
Thanks!

Another thing to check is Disk Management. I've had machines that wouldn't recognize a thumb drive because the drive letter was already in use and XP wouldn't switch them (mapped network drives). ...

I had a client about 4 years ago with the same problem in IE, though he didn't say anything about OE having an issue. Since he was using dialup, I had him save the page to his local machine, then...

Version 5.01, but I found out what the issue was. Turns out the client had tried to install, failed and mucked up the registry. Rolled back the system to the day before that, installed with no...

I'm trying to install this Nortel VPN software onto a client's machine and that's the error I keep getting. I've tried shutting down IPSEC, to no effect. Anyone ever seen this before?
The system...

XP Pro. I've also made sure the Windows firewall isn't turned on, nor any other firewall or AV software. It's a Compaq nx7400.

*side note* I joined the same time as NooNoo did. :) I have 1/100th of the posts that she does :(
Anyways, I'd still say you might want to take it apart (yes, it's a pain), and then check to see...

I've disassembled a few of those. The ones I worked on have a data cable running from the LCD down to near the touchpad. I'd suggest hooking it up to an external monitor and then doing the TOD (Tap...

Might be that the teeny little fuse that's connected to the PS2 port is blown. Did you plug in or unplug the mouse while the system was turned on? If so, he's right you should just use USB instead.

Nope. I'm not sure it's possible without some sort of 3rd party software.

An off the wall suggestion but...perhaps it's a hardware issue? We run the same software here and out of about 1,800 machines we've run into about 10 that have an issue with that, or McAfee's...

Can you replicate the problem on demand? For instance, by moving large files back and forth on the network? Also, are you using DHCP or static IP addresses?

Hrm, nope, I don't think that's it. It's set to "Not configured", and since the service is only to disable Remote Desktop Sharing, I would assume that's not it.

Thanks for the reply, I'll look at that. As for why she needs to do it this way...why do users ever "have" to do something in one specific way? :P
