Just a quick thought - try to check memory with good memory checker.
Blue screens (as well as hal.dll messages can be also caused by defective memory stick).

1. First of all, an original FIC retail version listed on FIC web site (you have found it).
2. Version made by FIC for E-machines (an OEM board)....

All the motherboard manafacturers were making boards using that chipset, but it doesn't mean their BIOS updates are compatible - flashing wrong BIOS can be fatal to the motherboard as it was said...

Can you get into the BIOS?
If so, look for parameter "Reset user configuration data = disable" (or "no") in an "Advanced BIOS settings".
Set it to "Enable" or "Yes" - it should solve the problem....

This motherboard has a hardware jumper to enable/disable on-board video - look for it. You can download the manual from ASUS site, if you don't have it.
Also make sure VGA ribbon cable is connected...

You didn't say what OS do you have, though.
Select proper driver - please note, Win98SE has a WDM driver, not VXD (Win98FE/Win95)

That's a DOS driver (wrong driver, by the way!).

Probably you have installed wrong driver as ES1938 is not an ISA, it is PCI-based sound card (no matter it is soldered in).

After reading my "BIOS recovery tips" you can guess I do very often... :D
In fact, I do it in 100% of cases if I'm building PC for someone - BIOS must be always up to date, IMHO... Any MB I use or...

BIOS update far not always can help... and even can make things worse if PC is not working stable enough - any lock up during BIOS flashing, and your MB will be screwed up...
