Screensaver won't stay
On 2 different win98 machines the screensaver keeps reverting to none, regardless of which screensaver you choose. In display properties, you can choose a screensaver and hit apply and ok, but when you go into display properties to check it shows no screensaver. Very weird. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I would say "format and reinstall" but then again this is not a reason..

don't know if this will help . . . but if you are running Macafee virus scan

also, the screensaver if referenced in the following system areas:
SYSTEM.INI:
[boot]
SCRNSAVE.EXE=(drive):\(path)\(file).SCR
Registry:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"ScreenSaveActive"="1"
"ScreenSaveLowPowerActive"="1"
"ScreenSave" etc...
maybe changing them there instead of control panel might help.
P.S. I like your username and sig. I forgot what a kick a$$ movie nightbreed was - not to mention the book. You reminded me, and I'll probably have to rent it this weekend or just find the DVD to buy.

Sounds like a system policy is preventing you from enabling the screen saver. Some system admins do this because some screen savers poll the resources on a machine including the resources for the NIC. This can cause a machine to dosconnect from the network when in screen saver, which can wreak havoc on DHCP, SMS and some third-party admin proggies.
You can check this by installing Poledit from the Windows 98SE resource kit and reviewing the installed policies on the machine. Or you can contact your system admin and find out if there are any policies installed on the network machines that may prevent screen savers.
