*Problem Installing New Rambus Memory
Hello Members,
I have a Sony Vaio Computer
• 1.5 GHz Intel Pentium 4 Processor
• 128 MB RAM Rambus Installed - Max 512 MB
• 60 GB Hard Drive
* O/S ME
I want to add more memory. so I purchased
( 2 ) 256 MB Rambus sticks, so I removed the old 64 MB sticks from slot 1 from left to right and slot 3 and add the new 256 MB to slot 1 and 3.
slot 2 and 4 have the dummy sticks installed.
when I try to restart the computer, I don't hear the one beep when the computer restarts up and the monitor screen doesn't turn on. anybody know what I'm doing wrong?
also I noticed on the new memory sticks from samsung that I purchased form a memory store. on one of the sticks it has a silver cover plate on both sides, is this the ECC? and the other one it only has the silver cover plate on one side only. I think this is the Non-Ecc? If this is correct that maybe the problem because I believe they can't be mixed. On the old 64mb sticks that sre being replaced it only has one silver cover plate.
thanks for any help...

The plates are RAMSINKS, they help draw the heat away from the memory, did you check in the motherboard manual to see if the board will accept 256mb sticks? It may support 512 but on with 4 128's

Also make note that with large amounts of memory, you may or may not run into problems using windows ME
